The Opportunity:

Manage operating systems, virtual machines, drivers, storage, and boot process for a Navy training system. The system includes virtualized tactical computer programs, simulations, video/voice distribution systems, and management systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain components of a virtualized computer system.

  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and document problems within virtualized systems in accordance with approved procedures to include: verification of proper operation of the system, optimizing and resolving issues associated with the virtualized environment, optimizing and resolving issues with load cycling process.

  • Recommend, review, and assess incremental changes to fielded computing systems equipment.

  • Develop tools to expand insight into the virtual system operation and performance.

  • Develop tools to improve provisioning of virtualized systems.

  • Provide start up and shut down support of the development and deployed systems.

  • Support delivery, installation, configuration and light-off of virtual systems.

  • Perform trade studies and analysis of alternatives for equipment upgrades of tactical computing systems.

  • Provide summaries or roadmaps for hardware vendors and their products.

  • Provide alternatives for items in deployed systems that are no longer procurable. Review and assess alternatives defined by Life Cycle Engineering Agent, Combat System Engineering Agent, and production team.

  • technology roadmaps to tactical computing equipment to aid customer in defining path forward.

  • Review/correct and develop effective scripts in BASH, PowerShell, and Python to automate system load cycling and configuration procedure and provide user-friendly scripts to automate routine tasks.

  • Provide inputs and review documentation pertaining to applicant’s area of responsibility. Applicant will be responsible for writing and submitting for review new procedures as required.

  • Report status at internal and customer meetings.

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering discipline

  • Proficiency with Linux Operating Systems

  • Proficiency with VMware products, specifically ESXi and vCenter

  • Working knowledge of AMD, Intel, and Cisco-based server and switch hardware

  • Working knowledge of thin clients/zero clients

  • Working knowledge of VSAN

  • Working knowledge of fiber optic communication types and compatibilities

  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance (Must be US Citizen)

Desired: 

  • Working knowledge of Aegis Combat/Weapon Systems.

  • Working knowledge of Intel, AMD, and network technology roadmaps.

  • Understanding of various communications protocols and encodings (RS232/422), USB, DP, H.264, etc.

  • Basic understanding of power distribution to an equipment cabinet and within an equipment cabinet.

  • Working knowledge of BASH/PowerShell/Python scripting.

  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, and yaml data serialization.

  • Experience working in a Data Center style setting.

  • Experience with Kanban style task tracking. (Trello, GitLab Issue Boards, GitHub Issue Projects, etc)

  • Active SECRET level clearance

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$60,600 - $121,200
