About the Role

As a Director, Sales, you will be responsible for growing Harman’s automotive business to meet customer specific booking targets. You and your team will engage with the customer in an early stage to create business opportunities and drive these opportunities with healthy commercials to award. Harman has a long-term partnership with Toyota for premium branded audio systems (JBL for Toyota and Mark Levinson for Lexus)

Your Team

This position leads a Pursuit team supporting projects and products of Harman’s Strategic Business Unit (SBU) Car Audio (CA) for Toyota.

What You Will Do

  • Build, maintain and drive the customer strategy for existing and new business opportunities for Car Audio with Toyota in alignment with the customer account strategy

  • Monitor competitive activities with the customer and keep the business informed and define/execute appropriate defensive measures

  • Build and execute 10 years plan

  • Drive growth strategy of Toyota / CG Japan with CAM lead and leadership team

  • Identify and create new pursuits and drive early engagement activities including “battle plan”, “POC”, “war gaming” and “10 standards”

  • Maintain and track all pursuits in Sales Force as “single source of truth”

  • Create game-changing unique selling proposition / value statements and work with internal teams to realize those

  • Understand customer expectations (cost, requirements, timing) and define internal targets to meet them

  • Drive RFI/RFQ through the internal process and attain management approval for the quote

  • Own RFI/RFQ response for new business opportunities and be responsible for the quote as well as for commercial sourcing negotiations with the customer

  • Identify key stakeholders and decision makers within Toyota and develop strategies to win new business

  • Lead and develop new business within CAM Toyota as highly engaged sales director and guide / educate the team members

  • Identify and solve complex, operational and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the department

  • Execute the HR cycle activities including hiring, performance management, succession planning, coaching and development

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • 10+ years of related sales experience, at least 3 years in Automotive

  • Must have a thorough understanding of Japanese Automotive OEM’s organization and processes

  • Thorough understanding of P&L statements, business cases and quotes / contracts with automotive OEMs

  • Strong hunting and negotiation skills

  • Experience developing and executing a strategy

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and English

What is Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in the sale or program management of car audio systems

  • Experience in leading a Sales Organization

  • Technical understanding of automotive HW and SW systems in the area of car audio

  • Experience within or working with Toyota
