AP teams function to keep our guests, team and brand safe and secure and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing, investigating and resolving theft and fraud to ensure products are available for our guest.

Ability to influence and provide thoughtful feedback to key partners (e.g. Regional/Group leadership, HR, HQ stakeholders)
Skills in driving business and market specific strategies by leveraging data and metrics and partnering with store, district, group, and HQ leadership to deliver results through field teams
Experience leading and influencing teams remotely in multiple markets made up of leaders of people through multiple layers
Skills in complex external, internal, and supply chain investigations (identification, investigation, and resolution)
Skills using mobile, stationary and physical surveillance, and intelligence-led tactics to aid in the reduction of shortage; including Target’s video surveillance system
Subject matter expertise of criminal prosecution practices and expectations to educate and drive District and Group results of investigations
As a Field Investigator no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:
Drive your business to grow sales
Ensure the protection of Target team members, physical assets and corporate facilities – and increase profitability by supporting field leadership teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures. Lead and support district and group teams in resolving significant safe and secure incidents (e.g., robbery, burglary, arson).
Training and educating field leaders so their teams can anticipate and identify shortage risks in key divisions and developing tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales. Ensure product is in stock and available for our guests by leveraging key internal and external partnerships.
Lead and close complex market and National theft cases including Organized Retail Crime (ORC), fencing operations, fraud, supply chain, brand and reputational issues.
Develop and investigate major organized external and internal cases which may result in a significant loss to Target. Use methods of prevention, detection, investigation, resolution, and recovery.
Support cases that require specialized investigative tactics on complex internal investigations in partnership with field, HQ and supply chain.
Cultivate a guest-centric salesforce to drive sales and efficiency
Benchmark the competition for trends and initiatives that are impacting the industry. Build and maintain strong partnerships with other retail investigators and work collaboratively on multi-company investigations.
Involvement with local Organized Retail Crime Associations. Participate in local meetings, present top offenders, and network with Retail Investigators, Law Enforcement, and Prosecutors.
Ability to influence and develop strong relationships with local, state, federal law enforcement agencies, and prosecutors to provide feedback for the advancement of major case operations. Act as liaison with law enforcement, prosecutors, and retail industry to support company Assets Protection initiatives.
Build relationships with other retail associations, assist, advise, and be involved in legislative action regarding ORC and Retail Theft in partnership with Government Affairs.
Support and train business partners on external theft and fraud investigations. Provide hands on training of investigative tactics by training field leaders on case building and interviewing tactics.
Partner with law enforcement, HQ, field, and store AP teams to aggregate applicable investigations charges. Ensure all prosecution/referral of local theft and fraud investigations are completed to the highest possible level and when necessary, represent Target in court and legal proceedings.
Identify and communicate emerging risks and trends with District / Group / Regional / HQ stakeholders using reporting, trend analysis, and internal and external partnerships.
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.

The good news is that we have some amazing training that will help teach you everything you need to know to be a Field Investigator. But there are a few skills you should have from the get-go:
4-year degree or equivalent experience
3+ years of retail assets protection/loss prevention or criminal justice experience
Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position
Experience and knowledge with internal and external theft investigations tactics and apprehending subjects
Strong interpersonal skills
Proven execution skills and ability to drive change
Operate in an ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment
Quickly adapt to changing priorities and tasks
Work in high intensity situations with composure and ease
Solution-based mindset with desire to uncover business gaps and solve problems
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Build strong working relationships with key partners
