About the Role

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accounting Director, leading the North America Financial and Statutory Accounting and Consolidations team, located in Midland, Michigan.

This role provides leadership to People Leaders and Individual Contributors and is accountable for the performance and results of the overall team. The team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting for Dow entities located in North America. Financial accounting and reporting activities include Treasury, Human Resources, litigation, royalties, stand-alone Union Carbide Corporation, special projects, footnote preparation and other activities.  This role also has oversight of the Consolidation Accounting team which manages the preparation of the consolidated financial statements, provides M&A accounting oversight and handles equity accounting.   

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead the North America Financial and Statutory Accounting and Consolidations team of approximately 35 people, providing oversight for team activities and team development
  • Foster a productive team environment that promotes inclusion, training, development, accountability and an overall understanding of Dow accounting policies
  • Maintain strong internal controls
  • Ensure timely and accurate accounting, reporting, and disclosure in accordance with US GAAP, including financial statements, footnotes, schedules, consolidation activities and management reporting
  • Provide reliable information that enables informed decision making by management and Dow’s businesses
  • Evaluate proposed accounting guidance and implement new accounting guidance
  • Serve as a member of the Global Financial and Statutory Accounting leadership team and actively support Company, Finance and Global Financial and Statutory Accounting initiatives
  • Participation on multiple leadership teams
  • Maintain close working relationships with Tax, Cost, Global Financial & Statutory Accounting teams, Corporate Controllers, Audit and various other partners

This role will also support additional reporting and analysis needs, will engage with internal and external auditors for Dow and will ensure audit requests and matters raised are addressed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance OR relevant military experience at an E6 rank/Petty Officer 2nd Class or higher is required
  • Minimum of 15 years of accounting, finance, or relevant experience
  • Minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Dow’s accounting structure, processes and businesses
  • Strong foundation in US GAAP accounting
  • CPA is helpful, but not required
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and manage changes
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
