Job Summary: 

The Scientific Computing Cloud Engineer will be responsible for developing and deploying supercomputing solutions in AWS supporting R&D, Clinical, and Manufacturing teams globally. The successful candidate will be the primary High-Performance Computing (HPC) Cloud engineer. This role requires a deep understanding of both on-premises and cloud-based HPC systems, as well as strong project management skills. The ideal candidate will have a background in life sciences and computer science, with a focus on supporting computational biology applications and AWS engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy automated HPC workloads and workflows using AWS cloud services, including Parallel Cluster, FSx for Lustre, Batch, Terraform,  and Cloud Formation.
  • Manage high-performance parallel file systems such as Weka, understanding data and storage workflows, movement, tiering, and tracking.
  • Act as the HPC data steward, ensuring data integrity and efficient data management practices.
  • Design, implement, and manage cost effective on-premises and HPC Cloud systems, including job schedulers (e.g., Slurm) and cluster management tools (e.g., Linux scripting, Ansible).
  • Architect and design HPC hardware and networking solutions, providing system troubleshooting and support for on-premises systems.
  • Develop and maintain web portals and sites to facilitate HPC resource access and management.
  • Lead and manage projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery of HPC solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align HPC strategies with organizational goals.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and team members
  • Document, train, and educate users on best practices. Level 3 engineering support for most challenging technical issues.
  • In this role, you will also be responsible for promoting a culture of excellence within the HPC team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience, with a significant portion of that time spent in HPC, cloud engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven ability to understand and manage data and storage workflows, movement, tiering, and tracking.
  • Experience with on-premises and Cloud HPC systems, including job schedulers (e.g., Slurm) and HPC tools (e.g., Linux administration, Ansible, AWS Batch).
  • Strong understanding of cluster architecture, design, HPC hardware, and networking.
  • Excellent system troubleshooting and support skills for HPC Cloud systems.
  • Experience in supporting, deploying, and managing scientific applications (Linux/Windows)
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage complex technical projects.
  • Advanced certifications in AWS cloud services or HPC technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with AWS cloud services, particularly HPC services such as ParallelCluster, FSx for Lustre, Batch, AWS PCS, Terraform, and CloudFormation.
  • Experience with high-performance parallel file systems like Weka, storage gateway, data sync.
  • Experience in the life sciences field, particularly in computational biology.
  • Familiarity with a variety of programming languages and tools used in high-performance computing, such as Python, Java, C++, MPI, R, R Studio, Jupyter Hub, Docker/Singularity and Spack.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to a variety of audiences.
