A little About Us:

The Yahoo Mail engineering team provides opportunities to work on challenges that are as exciting as the Yahoo Mail product itself at the scale that only a handful of companies can match. This team is responsible for overseeing and bolstering the entity reputation system, which facilitates the storage and rapid retrieval of entity classification outcomes on a large scale. With Yahoo being private again, it's a very exciting time to make a new history!

Responsibilities: 

  • Build large-scale distributed systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity

  • Collaborate with and guide other engineers to write testable, reliable code, continuously deploying to production systems

  • Deploy, monitor and operate large scale production systems distributed across the globe 

  • Automate the provisioning, scaling, and management of our infrastructure

  • Recommend alternative approaches to solving complex problems and utilizing new technology to achieve goals

  • Have the opportunity to learn about Machine Learning models and apply them to applications

A lot About You:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field with strong understanding of the fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, operating system(s) and networking

  • 3+ years experience in software development with Golang, Java or C++ 

  • Deep understanding of cloud computing concepts, Infrastructure as a Service(IaaS), Software as a service(SaaS) and Platform as a service(PaaS).

  • Experience with public cloud technologies (GCP *preferred* or AWS)

  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes preferably in GCP

  • Experience with designing and developing high performing and complex server applications on Unix

  • Outstanding troubleshooting and debugging skills with performance tuning experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of client/server architecture

  • Implement best practices for cloud security, scalability, and performance optimization.

  • Troubleshoot and debug cloud-based applications to ensure reliability and uptime.

  • Professional experience with high availability/throughput distributed system

  • Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, HBase and Spark

  • Experience in algorithm design and ML/AI

  • Experience with queuing and streaming technologies like Kafka or Apache Storm

  • Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL

  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Perl and or Ruby

  • Knowledge of SCRUM and Agile Methodologies

The compensation for this position ranges from $111,000.00 - $231,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
