Machinist (Machining)

Job Description

Set up and operate CNC machines (mills and/or lathes) under supervision

Load programs, tools, and materials according to setup sheets

Perform tool changes, basic offsets, and minor adjustments as instructed

Monitor machining operations to ensure quality and efficiency

Inspect parts using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges

Read and interpret engineering drawing, GD&T basics, and work instructions

Identify and report tooling, machine, or quality issues

Load materials and monitor machine cycles as instructed

Prepare, kit, and issue cutting tools, holders, and inserts for CNC operators

Assemble tool setups according to setup sheets and tool lists

Inspect cutting tools for wear or damage and replace inserts as needed

Maintain tool inventory and ensure proper storage and organization

Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as engineers and maintenance technicians, to troubleshoot equipment issues and optimize production processes.

Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment, including cleaning, calibration, and minor repairs.

Adheres to established regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and safety procedures.

Conduct regular quality control checks on raw materials, and final products to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.

Follow standard work instructions and safety protocols to minimize risks and maintain a safe working environment. And to ensure compliance with manufactured parts to regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

0–1 year of CNC machining experience or completion of a technical/trade school program

Basic knowledge of CNC mills and/or lathes

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawing and understand basic GD&T

Familiarity with cutting tools, inserts, and tool holders

Experience using precision measuring instruments

Basic understanding of G-code and CNC controls

Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Ability to stand for long periods and able to lift weights up to 15 kilograms

Dependable and able to work effectively in a team environment

Experience with tool presetters or probing systems

Familiarity with CAD/CAM software

Exposure to tool crib operations or tooling setup

Experience in a production or job shop environment

Machinist (Sheet Metal)

Job Description

Set up and operate Laser and/or Press Brake machines under supervision

Load programs, tools, and materials according to drawing requirements

Monitor machining operations to ensure quality and efficiency

Inspect parts using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges

Read and interpret engineering drawing, GD&T basics, and work instructions

Identify and report tooling, machine, or quality issues

Job Description

Prepare, kit, and issue cutting tools, holders, and inserts for CNC operators

Inspect cutting tools for wear or damage and replace inserts as needed

Maintain tool inventory and ensure proper storage and organization

Track tool usage and report shortages or tooling issues

Clean, label, and preset tools (manual or automated presetter, if applicable)

Work closely with CNC operators and supervisors to ensure tooling readiness

Follow tool handling, identification, and safety procedures

Assist with CNC machine setup and operation under supervision

Load materials and monitor machine cycles as instructed

Perform basic measurements and part inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges

Read and follow engineering drawing, setup sheets, and work instructions

Report machine, tooling, or quality issues to supervisors

Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste

Technical diploma, or recent graduate of a machining, CNC, or manufacturing program

Basic understanding of CNC machining and cutting tool concepts

Ability to read basic engineering drawing and tool lists

Familiarity with common cutting tools (end mills, drills, inserts) is a plus

Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn

Dependable, punctual, and able to work well in a team environment

Able to lift weights up to 15 kilograms.

Tool crib, tooling, or manufacturing experience

Experience with tool presetters or measuring equipment

Familiarity with CAD/CAM or CNC programming fundamentals

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). If you live within a reasonable commute of an RTX site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role.

Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
