Purpose 

The Senior Project Accountant ensures accurate financial tracking and reporting of projects, supporting effective budget management and compliance. The role enables project teams and leadership to make informed decisions by providing timely financial insights, managing costs, and ensuring alignment with contractual and regulatory requirements. It works across project accounting systems, financial controls, and reporting tools to maintain financial integrity throughout the project lifecycle.

Nature & Scope 

The Senior Project Accountant reports to the Finance Manager or Project Controls Lead and collaborates closely with project managers, procurement, and finance teams. Operating in a project-driven environment, the role uses ERP systems, project accounting software, and financial dashboards to monitor budgets, track expenditures, and manage billing. It plays a key role in ensuring financial transparency and supporting project delivery within scope and budget.

  

Principal Accountabilities: 

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and SOCPA guidelines.
  • Perform general ledger review, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing cycles to ensure timely reporting.

2. Regulatory Compliance (Saudi-Specific)

  • Manage Zakat and Corporate Income Tax requirements in accordance with ZATCA regulations.
  • Oversee VAT (Value Added Tax) calculations, filings, and reconciliations; ensure compliance with ZATCA audits and e‑invoicing Phase 2 (Fatoorah) requirements.
  • Support compliance with WHT (Withholding Tax) for cross-border payments.
  • Maintain proper documentation for regulatory inspections.

3. E‑Invoicing (Fatoorah) & Digital Compliance

  • Ensure alignment with ZATCA e‑invoicing standards and integration with ERP systems.
  • Monitor and validate real-time invoice transmission and QR code requirements.

4. Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Participate in budget preparation, forecast updates, and financial analysis.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide commentary for management decision-making.
  • Prepare periodic cash flow forecasts and cost control insights.

5. Internal Controls & Audit

  • Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Support internal and external audits (financial, tax, and ZATCA audits).
  • Identify process gaps and propose improvements aligned with Saudi regulatory expectations.

6. Operational Support

  • Work with procurement, operations, HR/Payroll, and other teams to validate financial data.
  • Ensure correct accounting treatment for employee benefits (EOSB) in line with Saudi Labor Law and IFRS.
  • Validate supplier and customer accounts in accordance with procurement and credit control policies.

7. Team Leadership

  • Supervise junior accountants and review their work.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 – 8 years in accounting or financial control
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), Excel, and project accounting tools.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate financial information clearly.
  • Languages: Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage depending on location.
