The Role

Operations and Maintenance Engineer working in the renewables sector, to oversee, lead, manage and contribute to all O&M delivery projects. Based out of our Bristol Office with occasional travel to our other offices in London and Guildford, and to project sites as required.

We require a highly motivated engineer who has experience with some or all of the following systems: Solar PV, EV Charging Infra, CHPs, Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps, Building Management Systems, Gas boiler systems, system integration, system performance, fault investigation and diagnosis, warranty determination, test and commissioning activities, RAMS, Reporting, Asset Management and Asset Maintenance.

Role Scope

Asset Management - Lead, Manage and Deliver O&M Projects, including:

  • Support the Project: Provide oversight, expertise, input and experience on scope of O&M works for all activities throughout all stages of projects.
  • Documentation: Accurate documentation is crucial. You’ll create and review various documents, budget spreadsheets, scopes of work, requirements, etc, to support projects.
  • Commercial Understanding: Experience of dealing with contracts and sub-contracts. Ability to interpret contract requirements and specifications. Experience creating and developing clause by clause assessments of contracts, requirements, scopes, etc.
  • Budgeting: Knowledge of basic budgeting - cashflows, cost sheets, purchase orders, invoicing.
  • Client Interaction: Experience of interacting with clients, addressing their concerns and providing updates on the O&M delivery.
  • Collaboration: You'll work closely with internal and external teams. Effective communication and collaboration are essential. Liaise with internal team members, such as Engineering, Project Managers, O&M, M&V, to ensure appropriate regulatory compliance is understood, to assure project and O&M delivery activities are fully and safely completed. Build collaborative and positive relationships with suppliers and clients.
  • Troubleshooting: When problems arise, you’ll be part of the team that troubleshoots and diagnoses issues. This could involve analysing data logs, using diagnostic tools, and collaborating with other engineers.
  • Installation Oversight: You’ll oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, ensuring it’s done correctly. This includes coordinating with contractors, reviewing maintenance plans, and conducting site visits. Ensure continuity during handovers from construction to commissioning, and commissioning to client/ O&M/ M&V. Schedule, manage and complete works and tasks against a project schedule.
  • System Testing and Verification: You’ll be capable of supporting the activities to test and verify the functionality of electro-mechanical systems, ensuring they meet design functional specifications. This may involve assessing electrical circuits, mechanical components, and control systems.

Safety Compliance: Ensuring Safety is the highest priority. Be a role model for all aspects of safety. Ensure that safety protocols are followed during commissioning, testing and any works. This includes verifying emergency shutdown procedures, grounding, and protective measures.

Continuous Improvement and Quality: You'll consciously drive continuous improvement within the Business, O&M Team and throughout the O&M delivery process.

Qualification Requirements

  • Prefer HNC/HND in electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, control systems disciplines plus 18th Edition an advantage.

Essential Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a time served electro-mechanical engineer/ technician.
  • Highly motivated self-starter and team player.
  • Self-manage tasks and task administration.
  • Excellent communicator - must be a fluent English speaker, especially technically.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, especially client facing and to build a rapport with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Can work skilfully, independently, pragmatically, and safely.
  • Able to keep a cool head, and cope with the unexpected.
  • Understand business practices to maximise sustainable profits.
  • Understanding and analysis of contracts and service agreements a distinct advantage.
  • Understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) budgets, budget and cashflow tracking and cost models for O&M.
  • Hands-on fault finding and fault investigation to understand root causes. Use of RCA tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc
  • Time management skills - to be calm and reliable at all times.

Desirable Requirements

  • At least 3 years of Renewable Energy and/ or Industrial Project experience, including BMS, CHPs, ASHPs, Gas Boilers, Solar, EV Charging, BESS, etc.
  • Understands the FMECA process and has experience leading or being part of a team that has delivered FMECA/ RCM.
  • Knowledge of system design, design for maintainability/ constructability an advantage.
  • Significant advantage if you have the qualifications, certification and experience to carry out maintenance on any of the systems we build, operate and maintain.
