Medtronic Tempe Campus (MTC), is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to work in the Software Automation team to support Manufacturing Operations.  An ideal candidate for this position will be a self-motivated individual with a thorough understanding of current manufacturing automation software, test data and analytics software development. The candidate must have strong problem solving and analytic skills in addition to excellent written and oral communication competencies.


Workflow Automation & Analytics provides technical ownership and leadership for workflow automation, traceability, and analytics applications at the Tempe campus. This role stabilizes critical systems and leads the transition from legacy tools to next-generation, enterprise-aligned solutions.

Business Impact

Ensures stable ownership of critical software, reduces operational risk and downtime, and enables scalable, enterprise-aligned digital manufacturing solutions at the Tempe site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as senior technical owner for applications supporting engineering and operations workflow automation, traceability, and analytics.

  • Migrating existing business process library from Atlassian Confluence, streamlining teams and applications to drive efficiency

  • Assess and Implement AI use cases for streamlining key processes.

  • Optimize use of Microsoft teams for site operations by driving consolidation and improvement of teams channels and functions

  • Provide expert-level support for production-critical issues.

  • Lead application enhancements, migrations, and modernization efforts driven by user needs and infrastructure changes.

  • Partner with Medtronic IT and local stakeholders to perform application updates, manage technical risk, and coordinate releases.

  • Drive retirement of legacy applications and define next-generation solutions aligned with Medtronic’s technology stack.

  • Establish and maintain required SDLC documentation, testing, and release artifacts.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience developing software for workflow automation and data analytics OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience developing software for workflow automation and data analytics OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience developing software for workflow automation and data analytics.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Proficiency in C#.NET is strongly preferred to be successful in this role.

  • Proficiency in data integration, visualization, and reporting tools.

  • Strong knowledge of the full Software Development Life Cycle (requirements, design, testing, release).

  • Proficiency in Atlassian Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Spotfire, Adobe Coldfusion and Windows-based application environments.

  • Proven ability to support production systems in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries.

  • Experience modernizing or retiring legacy applications.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing traceability systems.

  • Experience with Unix Operating Systems


 

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$148,000.00 - $222,000.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
