The Systems Integration Architect provides expertise in the planning, coordination, and design of the organization’s critical system integration architecture required for data sharing across the organization and interoperability with external customers and partners.

The Systems Integration Architect will focus on multiple domains including Application Integration Architecture which includes all activities related to the integration of software programs, applications, and third-party solutions as required to meet the business requirements of the organization. This position will also be responsible for Service Integration Architecture which includes all activities related to the integration of cloud, on-premise, and business-to-business solutions.

The Systems Integration Architect will work closely with technical teams to ensure enterprise-level standards and requirements are met. Excellent communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of enterprise-level integration patterns and best practices are critical to successful performance in this role."

Job Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning
• Develop an Integration Architecture Strategy for the enterprise (and/or assigned business unit) based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations.
• Apply a structured integration architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the business and IT unit in the context of the enterprise.
• Enumerate, analyze, catalog, and suggest improvements to the strategic, core, and support service integration processes of the enterprise (and/or assigned business unit), as needed, to support strategic and operational goals.
• Evaluate and present information that will facilitate effective and timely decision-making through written and oral communication materials that effectively summarize findings with recommendations.
• Act as a subject matter expert in the development of integration architecture framework, tool suite selection, and design and methodology development.
• Ensure that integration planning and practices are aligned with strategic business goals and the company’s overall strategic vision.
• Develop standards and policies for assisting the business with evaluating service vendors to make integration as simple as possible.
• Develop standards and processes to support and facilitate integration projects and initiatives.

Architecture and Design
• Develop and maintain an integration architecture blueprint for the organization.
• Plan, execute, and manage the integration of new applications into existing systems and software throughout the enterprise.
• Plan, execute, and manage the integration of new application integration technology into the existing AI environment.
• Create technical process model/flows that show technical integration points between applications based upon business requirements.
• Research and make recommendations on integration products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.

Relationship Management
• Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the development, testing and implementation of newly-integrated software programs and applications.
• Build relationships with technical teams to gain an understanding of application architectures and required functionality.
• Build relationships with vendors of application software deployed in the organization’s IT environment to learn about and provide feedback on their technical integration capabilities.

Operational Management
• Ensure cloud services are properly integrated to optimize cost and service delivery.
• Ensure the collection and coherent interpretation of the various business processes affected by integration efforts.
• Work diligently to enhance or improve business processes via integration or, as necessary, minimize the impact of integration on those processes.
• Evaluate results of integration projects, then report and make recommendations based on findings.
• Where necessary, provide guidance to junior members of the team.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities
• Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department.
• Provides assistance to team members.
• Accepts alternate assignments, as required.

Experience REQUIRED:
Ten (10)+ years of experience in enterprise-level application integration.
Proven experience in developing enterprise and solution level architectural designs.
Proven experience in overseeing the linking of cross-functional applications between disparate business and clinical systems.
Experience gathering business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data mapping.
Direct, hands-on experience with automated integration tools and technologies.
Expert knowledge of Interoperability concepts and techniques.
Demonstrated experience in ensuring that various cloud services are properly integrated to optimize cost and service delivery.
Excellent communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of integration best practices.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Results-oriented, decisive, can-do attitude.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Master’s degree preferred.

Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Practitioner preferred
