TO OPERATE EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION AND AUTOTRANSFUSION EQUIPMENT DURING ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURE IN WHICH IT IS NECESSARY TO ARTIFICIALLY SUPPORT OR TEMPORARILY REPLACE A PATIENT'S CIRCULATORY OR RESPIRATORY FUNCTIONS.

Education & Experience

MUST BE CERTIFIED BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION, OR (IF NEW GRADUATE) CERTIFICATION  BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION WITHIN 18 MONTHS OF HIRE. 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:  CERTIFICATION BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION, OR (IF NEW GRADUATE) CERTIFICATION  BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF CARDIOVASCULAR PERFUSION WITHIN 18 MONTHS OF HIRE.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION FUNCTIONS AND TECHNIQUES. SKILL IN OPERATING EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION AND AUTOTRANSFUSION EQUIPMENT. KNOWLEDGE OF IMPLANTABLE VENTRICULAR ASSIST DEVICE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE.  SKILL IN SET UP/OPERATION OF IMPLANTABLE VENTRICULAR ASSIST DEVICE EQUIPMENT. VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS. INTERPERSONAL SKILL TO INTERACT WITH PHYSICIANS, PATIENTS, AND OTHER STAFF. ABILITY TO REACT CALMLY IN STRESSFUL SITUATIONS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • MONITORS THE ALTERED CIRCULATORY PROCESS, INITIATES APPROPRIATE ACTION WHEN ABNORMALITIES ARISE, AND KEEPS SURGEON AND OTHER PERSONNEL FULLY INFORMED.
  • ENSURES THE STERILITY AND INTEGRITY OF PACKAGING OF DISPOSABLE EQUIPMENT USED AS WELL AS THE CORRECT SETUP AND BREAKDOWN OF DISPOSABLE AND NON-DISPOSABLE AND STERILE AND NON-STERILE EQUIPMENT.
  • MONITORS CELL SAVER AND OPERATES THE HEART-LUNG MACHINE, BLOOD GAS ANALYSIS MACHINE, CLOTTING TIME/HEPARIN ANALYZER, AND CARDIAC-ASSIST DEVICES.
  • RECORDS RELEVANT PERFUSION INFORMATION DURING SURGERY;  ANALYZES AND MAINTAINS RECORDS AFTER SURGERY.
  • PERFORMS QUALITY CONTROL/PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE TO ENSURE ACCURACY AND LONGEVITY OF EQUIPMENT. MAINTAINS INVENTORY OF EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES.
  • CONDUCTS PERIODIC IN-SERVICE TRAINING AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES.
  • THE DUTIES LISTED ARE GENERAL IN NATURE AND ARE EXAMPLES OF THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMED AND ARE NOT MEANT TO BE CONSTRUED AS EXCLUSIVE OR ALL-INCLUSIVE. MANAGEMENT RETAINS THE RIGHT TO ADD OR CHANGE DUTIES AT ANY TIME.
