At Groq. We believe in an AI economy powered by human agency. We envision a world where AI is accessible to all, a world that demands processing power that is better, faster, and more affordable than is available today. AI applications are currently constrained by the limitations of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), a technology originally developed for the gaming market and soon to become the weakest link in the AI economy.

Enter Groq's LPU™ Inference Engine. Specifically engineered for the demands of large language models (LLMs), the Language Processing Unit outpaces the GPU in speed, power, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The quickest way to understand the opportunity is to watch the following talk – groq.link/scspdemo.

Why join Groq? AI will change humanity forever, and we believe preservation of human agency and self determination is only possible if AI is made affordably and universally accessible. Groq’s LPUs will power AI from an early stage, and you will get to leave your fingerprint on civilization.

Senior RTL Power Optimization Engineer

Mission: to be responsible for driving power-efficient designs from the ground up, optimizing power consumption at various levels of the design process, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge semiconductor solutions.

Responsibilities & outcomes:

  • Optimize RTL designs to improve power efficiency while maintaining performance and area targets.
  • Perform power analysis at different stages of silicon design and implement power-saving techniques in RTL that include techniques (but not limited to) such as clock gating, power gating, multi-voltage domains, dynamic voltage scaling, etc.
  • Conduct power estimation and explore PPA (power, performance, and area) trade-offs for existing and new design features
  • Work closely with the physical design team to ensure power targets are achieved during synthesis, place-and-route (P&R), and sign off stages.
  • Develop accurate power models based on RTL simulations and gate-level netlists, and perform power roll up to estimate chip-level power for various scenarios

Ideal candidates have/are:

  • Electronics & Computer Engg or equivalent background and/or experience in this domain
  • Solid experience with RTL coding using Verilog/SystemVerilog, with expertise in low power RTL design & optimization of complex digital systems
  • Strong knowledge and experience in implementing low-power design techniques such as clock gating, power gating, and DVFS. Familiarity with UPF/CPF power intent descriptions is a plus.
  • Proficiency with power analysis tools (e.g., Synopsys PrimePower, Cadence Joules).
  • Experience with synthesis and place-and-route flows focused on power optimization.
  • Ability to automate power analysis and optimization tasks using scripting languages (Tcl, Perl, Python).
  • Self motivated & independent worker
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Attributes of a Groqster:
