JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Engineering, Facilities & OPEX Director directly reports to the Site Director and oversees Engineering, Industrial and Facility Maintenance, and Facility Management (G&A), while championing Operational Excellence. This role serves as a site liason for these subjects with external organizations, including Abbott Global. The Engineering, Facilities & OPEX Director ensures the site complies with all regulations, sets and executes strategic plans in line with company goals, and optimizes staff and resources in partnership with Global Engineering and internal teams. Additionally, the director manages the department budget, project expenses and capital investments. The role extends to guaranteeing that all departments are equipped with the necessary physical resources and administrative support to fulfill their functions effectively, fostering the Operational Excellence program to enhance efficiency and cultivating high-performing teams.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational (Business) Excellence

  • Assist in establishing vision, strategy, and metrics for ADJ leadership.
  • Manage ADJ Operational Excellence Initiatives, aligning the site objectives with Global OPEX objectives.
  • Lead the cost improvement project pipeline (including PCGP – product cost glide path) and drive the team to successfully achieve or exceed yearly GMI targets.
  • Monitor process performance and proactively implement solutions to improve operational and quality performance.
  • Manage master data and business analytics, QI/CAPA, and graphic design processes
  • Accomplish department strategic and financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing and controlling the annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions. Prepare all required performance reports for the leadership team.
  • Review and improve department organizational effectiveness (workplace safety, quality standards, process efficiency, cost reduction and waste elimination) by developing processes, overseeing employees, establishing a safe and healthy, highly motivated and high performing work environment, and creating innovative approaches for improvement.

Build/Manage the team

  • Recruit, onboard, and train high-performing employees to achieve or excel department and company goals and objectives.
  • Lead team members in career performance and development through regular performance assessments, feedback, coaching and development opportunities.
  • Lead teams in identifying and implementing continuous improvement activities.
  • Build collaborative, cross-functional relationships.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor, designing opportunities for career development.

Engineering

  • Analyze and plan process workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency
  • Set and control equipment implementation, maintenance strategy and policy, as well as implement and control performance metrics and goals.
  • Design and test (validate) new equipment, processes, procedures and systems.
  • Research automation techniques, test new systems for efficiency and plan factory layouts to optimize production.
  • Propose modification and control the DCF/ROI of the projects.
  • May act as a recognized subject matter expert in the Egineering/Industrial Maintenance subjects.
  • Recommend maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications.
  • Ensure that the workplace has the appropriate resouce to perform the designated activities.

Industrial and Facility Maintenance

  • Secure that the workplace and equipments are clean and organized. Also make sure that all productive assets are in good working/validated condition all the time.
  • Establish and manage the predictive, preventive maintenace and calibration plans.
  • Establish and manage the spare parts inventory based on the risk assesment.
  • Ensure that the facility is fully operational with all utilities functioning properly and effectively.
  • Source/ manage external industrial maintenance service vendors and spare parts vendors.
  • Manage/ optimize the total maintenance cost (internal/external resource, parts cost, parts inventory).
  • Minimize the loss of products and/or production time due to equipment failure. Extend the life span of the production line and equipment by minimizing the wear and tear and deterioration.

Facility Management (General and Administration)

  • Ensure site compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee security of buildings and grounds.
  • Forecast, allocate and supervise the financial and physical resources of the facility management.
  • Supervise all facilities staff (custodians, technicians, groundskeepers etc.) and external contractors.
  • Make sure all department are provided of administrative service for them to perform the job.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelors Degree (± 16 years)

Mechanical  / Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering

Experience/Background

Minimum 10 years

  • Proven work experience in a managerial role.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively across departments and external parties
  • Experience in strategic thinking, strategy development and execution.
  • Experience with conflict resolution.
  • Result driven, detail-oriented, well organized and able to adhere to deadlines. Ability to motivate people on your team and across departments.
