About This Opportunity  

As the Senior Officer, Media and Content, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of The University of Queensland by crafting compelling stories that resonate with key audiences, including media, industry, government, and the broader community.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Manager, Media and Content, to produce high-quality content that highlights the University’s world-leading research, innovative partnerships and impactful contributions. In addition, you will proactively identify media opportunities, and ensure the University’s experts are prominently featured in relevant discussions.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Collaborate with UQ colleagues to identify, create and produce high-quality stories that enhance the university’s reputation and align with strategic priorities.
  • Respond to media enquiries, assist journalists with information, and build strong relationships with both mainstream and specialist outlets.
  • Research, draft and produce original multimedia content across multiple platforms, and proactively pitch stories to journalists to maximise media coverage.
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of media and communication campaigns, utilising analytics to inform and improve future strategies.

About You

  • A degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years of experience in media, public relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a track record of successfully pitching story ideas and securing media coverage.
  • Experience in the higher education sector or a similar complex organisation is desirable, along with skills in producing multimedia materials, including basic video editing.
  • Strong communication planning and project management skills, with the ability to support complex programs involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft clear, accurate content for a general audience.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
