Behavioral Health Outpatient Therapist - Chronic Pain

The Comprehensive Pain Recovery vision is to serve patients across the persistent pain continuum, by providing early multidisciplinary intervention to reduce risk for pain chronification for individuals with persistent pain while also treating the complex, refractory chronic pain patients through interdisciplinary rehabilitation. The CPR includes innovative functional restoration programs, a ketamine infusion therapy program, and additional outpatient services including pain interventional, medication and behavioral management strategies for pain. The center is supported by pain trained physicians, a psychiatrist, advanced nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists, counselors, physical/occupational therapists, and administrators.

As a Behavioral Health Outpatient Therapist, you will utilize specialized clinical knowledge and advanced clinical skills in the areas of psychotherapy, clinical counseling, diagnostic interviews, assessments and treatment plans to provider therapy sessions to patients ranging in age from 5 to late adulthood. Therapy sessions may be for individuals, groups, or on a family-oriented basis.  

A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 5:00pm. Hybrid opportunities are available.   

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Utilize a clinical focus across the mental health spectrum from anxiety and depression to bi-polar and schizophrenia. 

  • Participate in the development and implementation of an appropriate assessment based interdisciplinary treatment plan.  

  • Consult with team managers, statutory and voluntary agencies and patient relatives to ensure compliance with patient treatment plan.  

  • Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessment and participate in interdisciplinary rounds. 

  • Provide individual, group, family and crisis counseling.  

  • Act as a liaison with patients, families, community support workers and facilities to obtain information and facilitate discharge planning.  

  • Provide education and resources for patients and family members.  

  • Supervise and/or train lower-level social workers, students or interns. 

  • Process paperwork, take telephone calls and complete clinical documentation.  

  • Participate in continuing professional education, departmental meetings and teaching. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or a related field.  

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Social Worker (LSW). 

  • No record of substantiated ethics or patient abuse reports.  

  • Three years of experience in a behavioral health setting. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of current psychotherapeutic techniques, theories, and practices sufficient to evaluate, diagnose and counsel patients.  

  • Ability to concisely document clinical findings and patient needs in an electronic medical record while navigating a multi-specialized behavioral health environment. 

  • Ability to communicate across different electronic platforms and across a broad geographic provide base. 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Experience working with chronic pain patients.  

  • Experience in trauma therapy and substance abuse.  

  • Experience with individual and group therapy.

Physical Requirements:

  • A high degree of manual dexterity to produce materials on PC.
  • Normal or corrected vision.
  • Extensive sitting and frequent walking.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
