Job Description
General Description:
A Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, optimizing, and overseeing production processes, mechanical components, machinery, and systems to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing operations. They will continuously improve production methods, enhance product quality and equipment reliability, and minimize production costs and waste.
Essential Functions:
- Must have the ability & willingness to perform at the expected level of attendance at IKO Glass Fibers, Inc.; to work every day, on time, as scheduled.
- Promote and maintain IKO safety goals and ensure a safe work environment for all employees. Leads safety and housekeeping efforts and corrective actions within department, assigned projects, and areas with goal of zero incidents. Exemplifies safety in all actions and leads by example.
- Create detailed designs, BOMs, and engineering drawings for mechanical components, systems, and products.
- Analyze and evaluate designs for functionality, structural integrity, and safety.
- Create detailed product specifications, including material requirements and manufacturing processes.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop 3D models and prototypes and perform form, fit, and function analysis during modeling.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production and electrical engineers, HSE, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of electrical and mechanical components with a focus on continuous improvement and reliability.
- Ensure that designs meet industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Innovate and develop solutions to engineering challenges and problems.
- Develop maintenance schedules and procedures for mechanical equipment and systems.
- Support mechanical maintenance by training, troubleshooting, and resolving equipment malfunctions and breakdowns.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to extend equipment lifespan.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date engineering documentation and reports.
- Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
- Other duties as required.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation), with the ability to effectively work with others in a team environment.

- Experience in utilizing statistics to solve problems and monitor processes.

- Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols
- Proficiency in CAD software, 3D modeling, engineering analysis tools, and simulation software.
Beneficial Experience and Skills:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Training Requirements:
- All training necessary to stay current in mechanical engineering especially those of the preventive and predictive nature.
- Any training required by IKO.

- Occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves objects up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly bends, stoops, stretches, and reaches to stock office supplies, etc.
- Frequently moves about the facility to survey plant and associates.
- Regularly operates computer and other office equipment.
- Occasionally attends meetings away from the office.
- Regularly work outside in various extreme weather conditions.
PPE Requirements:
- No PPE required unless working out of the office area.
- In plant areas, long sleeves, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses with fixed side shields are required. Other PPE such as hard hat, ARC Flash, gloves may be required according to specific work procedures.
Education Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and at least six (6) years’ experience in a manufacturing facility.
