The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Client Relations Co-op Student/Intern for the Winter 2025 (January to April) work term to support the Corporate & Investor Relations department. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will work with the Client Relations team within our Corporate & Investor Relations department. The team manages all aspects of the business relationships with our institutional investor clients who have entrusted BCI to manage their collective capital and generate long-term wealth on their behalf. The team works to build long-term relationships based on trust and to ensure that we exceed our clients’ investment performance and service expectations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Support the efforts of the Client Relations team to proactively ensure that BCI exceeds our clients’ service expectations.

  • Conduct independent research and prepare reports/presentations on a wide range of investment topics for client meetings and for internal staff.

  • Develop a strong understanding of client needs and the specific investment objectives for various institutional investors (e.g., pensions, insurance, endowment).

  • Develop client-ready responses to their requests – understand individual client needs/concerns and be able to tailor a response.

  • Assist with the coordination of client meetings, as well as organizing internal resources’ participation and attendance at client events.

  • Assist with client education by producing written materials and educational presentations.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Impeccable attention to detail.

  • Interest in finance, economics, and investment management.

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and project management skills.

  • Able to work with senior investment professionals in a professional, dynamic, and performance-driven environment.

  • Working towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, or comparable, would be an asset but is not required.

  • Ideal Candidate

  • Has a keen interest in investments and a drive to continually learn about financial markets.

  • Demonstrates an ability to gather and process large amounts of data and information and present it in a concise manner.

  • Likes to solve problems using creative and innovative solutions.

  • Enjoys building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and team members. Experience in a customer service role would be an asset.

  • Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description.

  • Has relevant prior co-op experience (preferred).

  • Competitive pay: Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,090.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department and $2,090.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)

  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
