Role Purpose
The SAP S/4HANA Financial Planning Functional Consultant will triage, refine, and document business requirements for the organisation s financial planning and analysis processes. This role bridges Finance stakeholders and SAP planning solution teams, ensuring that planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting needs are accurately captured and translated into functional designs across SAP BPC, BI-IP/BW-IP, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) Planning, or related SAP planning platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Business Requirements & Process Analysis
Engage Finance process leads and business SMEs to gather and clarify planning requirements including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and driver-based modelling.
Challenge and refine business assumptions to produce clear, actionable requirements.
Facilitate workshops to understand current state processes and define target state solution
SAP Planning & Finance Expertise
Apply strong finance process knowledge across P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, cost center planning, profit center planning, and CAPEX/OPEX.
Evaluate fit/gap of requirements against existing SAP planning solutions (SAP BPC, SAP BI-IP/BW-IP, SAP Analytics Cloud Planning).
Collaborate with SAP functional/technical teams on design of planning models, templates, allocations, and workflows.
Functional Design & Documentation
Write comprehensive functional specifications, including planning logic, calculations, integration rules, data mappings, and template layouts.
Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, finance governance, and best-practice planning models.
Support integration of plan-to-actual data for analytics/reporting teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with data engineers, data modelers, and solution consultants to ensure planning data structures meet business needs.
Validate outputs and conduct user acceptance cycles for planning models and templates.
Participate in change impact assessments and user training materials.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years in FP&A, Finance, or Controlling with strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Hands-on experience with SAP planning tools: SAP BPC, BI-IP/BW-IP, SAC Planning, or SAP PaPM.
Strong understanding of SAP Finance modules (FI/CO), master data (GL, cost centers, profit centers, WBS), and their relevance for planning.
Demonstrated experience writing detailed functional specifications for planning or finance applications.
Excellent analytical ability to translate business concepts into structured planning logic.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
SAP certification in BPC, SAC, or BI-IP.
Experience with BW/4HANA, HANA modeling, or Azure analytics platforms.
Background in enterprise transformation programs.
