The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is committed to finding cures for cardiovascular diseases, renal diseases, and metabolic diseases. The Cardiovascular group is part of the IMRU and our goal is to build a research team of driven scientists focused on developing a deep mechanistic understanding of the vascular and inflammatory pathways driving cardiovascular disease.
The successful candidate is expected to drive in vivo and in vitro studies to address key mechanistic and pharmacological scientific questions. The candidate is expected to possess technical skills in the areas of rodent handling and animal models of cardiometabolic disease (atherosclerosis, heart failure, etc.) and to have experimental design and data analysis skills. Basic laboratory techniques in cell and molecular biology are required. A desire to understand the underlying causes of cardiovascular disease and basic biology mechanism involved in the disease progression is essential.
Must-Have
BA/BS degree with 6+ years or MA/MS degree with 4+ years’ experience in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology (or a comparable biological science) in an academic or pharmaceutical/biotech environment
Experience in rodent handling and in vivo technical skills (dosing, tissue collection, etc.); preference for candidates with a strong record in rodent cardiometabolic disease models.
Basic laboratory skills for standard cell and molecular biology methods
Experience in experimental design and the interpretation of results; ability to troubleshoot methodologies and results
Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic.
Possess strong written/verbal communication skills and the ability to present at both internal and external meetings
Nice-to-Have
Experience in rodent cardiovascular surgery
Experience in primary cell culture
Experience in drug discovery
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis
