The Grand Valley State University Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mechanical engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with an anticipated start date of August 6, 2025.

The ideal candidate will bring teaching and research experience in the general thermo-fluids area, specifically in computational fluid dynamics, HVAC, alternative energy, and/or propulsion. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate, including some freshman-level courses, and graduate courses. Summer teaching with additional pay is highly encouraged. This position opens at the Assistant Professor level but could be extended to the Associate Professor level with appropriate experience.

Candidates must have a PhD in mechanical engineering or a directly related field. The new hire will be expected to engage in high-quality mentoring and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, contribute to an environment of inclusive excellence, develop a research program that includes both undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in departmental, university, and professional service.

The BSE program at GVSU includes mandatory co-op education experiences and extensive experiential learning components, including industry-sponsored senior projects. The MSE program emphasizes professional practice as well as applied research. Partly sponsored by local industry, these programs yield job-ready as well as graduate-school-ready engineering graduates in support of the diversified regional industries.

The mechanical engineering program values interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships both within and outside the University. The extensive industry ties of the Padnos College of Engineering provide unique opportunities for industry collaboration and applied research.

Minimum starting salary: Assistant Professor: $90,000; commensurate with experience.

Minimum starting salary: Associate Professor: $110,000; commensurate with experience.
