The Clinical Supervisor provides patient-centered, specialized, and evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. Contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and ThedaCare policy. Is responsible for patient outcomes that meet high quality of care standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and unit-specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develops a plan of care in a collaborative practice with the inter-professional team.
2. Monitors compliance with standards of care by observation, verbal reports, audits, and written documentation, with feedback loops to department leaders, providers, and team members.
3. Demonstrates emotional intelligence and confidence and maintains composure during conflict. Serves with integrity and sets a positive example at all times.
4. Provides input and supports the department leaders in interviewing and hiring, appraisal performance, mentoring, motivating, coaching, and retention of team members.
5. Acts strategically, understands and can manage change, and assists team members through transitions. Advocates for stakeholders to meet strategic goals, and assists team members in understanding how their day–to-day jobs contribute to organizational strategy.
6. Provides feedback to peers in a constructive manner, keeps information confidential, and develops and maintains lateral, cross-boundary relationships.
7. Plans for the total care needs of the patient in collaboration with the inter-professional team to provide the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.
8. Demonstrates clinical expertise in the clinical specialty of assigned responsibility with the ability to perform all functions of the professional clinical nurse that are age appropriate and culturally specific.
9. Provides consultation and maintains positive relationships with physicians and other inter-professional team members, collaborating to problem solve and improve patient care.
10. Collaborates on department/clinic schedules, monitors staffing levels, and provides input to the budget preparation/monitoring and the identification of workload variability to predict and plan for appropriate staffing to enhance productivity/efficiency and maintain quality care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commitment to obtain BSN within five years for current ThedaCare RNs or completion of a surgical technologist training program.
• Current Wisconsin RN license, if an RN.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Three years of clinical experience
• Two years of experience leading projects, a council/committee, and/or clinical improvement work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of Fifty (50) pounds without assistance
• Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
• Occasional high noise level in work environment
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
• Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
• Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed
• Occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients.
