Job Summary

The Unified Communications Engineering team is looking for a motivated software development engineering manager who can lead a team of DevOps and software development engineers to develop and operate our real time communication applications & platform. We are looking for someone who is an excellent collaborator and has proven experience in hiring, building and leading diverse teams.

You would be responsible for managing a team of developers and devops engineers to develop and operate backend components of a real-time communications platform including but not limited to VoIP softphone, Conferencing, Screen Share, Voicemail, Call Recording, and Restful API Services. You will lead and drive a team culture made up of diverse individuals with varied experience levels from Junior to Expert.

The selected person should be a technical leader and a team player who has experience working with a geographically distributed team. Must possess strong analytical and development experience to assess the existing platform and work with the team to scale, harden, optimize, and build new solutions to improve customer experience.

In this role, you will:  

  • Interview, hire and train new employees. 

  • Collaborate with project partners to identify product and technical requirements. 

  • Support applications under development and customize current applications. 

  • Provide technical leadership throughout the design process and mentorship with regards to practices, procedures, and techniques. 

  • Serve as a guide and mentor for Junior through Senior level Software Development Engineers. 

  • Display in-depth knowledge of and ability to apply, process design, and redesign skills.  

  • Present and defend architectural, design, and technical choices to internal audiences. 

  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. 

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Ability to work effectively across a matrixed environment and influence without formal authority 

  • Experience with programming languages, e.g. Java, GoLang, or C/C++ 

  • Convey complex technical issues/problems to programmers in a clear/concise manner. 

  • Ability to convey complex concepts to business stakeholders in terms relevant to the 

  • business 

  • Hands-on experience with Open-Source Software 

  • Knowledge of VoIP technologies including SIP protocol is a plus 

  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases 

  • Experience with information security and access control protocols 

  • Experience with managed service and onshore/offshore team teamwork 

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Demonstrated experience on data security and built-in privacy 

  • Knowledge on Software Development Lifecycle

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversees the planning and designing of software and web applications, including new programs, enhancements and modifications.
  • Provides guidance to Software Engineering team and other departments in identifying product and technical requirements. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison between Software Engineering and other teams.
  • Directs implementation initiatives for new software products and applications. Organizes software update process for existing applications and coordinates the roll-out of software releases.
  • Manages all the deliverables to ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications and budgets. Implements performance metrics and prepares periodic reports. Monitors and tracks project progress and reports findings to leadership team.
  • Ensures all engineers keep current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products.
  • Develops proposals, hardware/software changes and other capital expenditure projects.
  • Manages professional and non-exempt employees, conducting work performance reviews and Ensures work performance is adhering to Company standards. Mentors, trains and develops staff.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
