z/OS Technical Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced z/OS Technical Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing z/OS systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of mainframe environments. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication abilities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

z/OS System Administration:

    - Install, configure, and maintain z/OS operating systems, including IPLs, software updates, and PTFs.

    - Manage and troubleshoot z/OS system issues, including performance optimization and problem resolution.

Mainframe Security:

    - Implement and enforce mainframe security policies, including access controls, authentication, and authorization.

    - Manage RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret security products.

Performance Management:

    - Monitor and analyze system performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and issues.

    - Implement performance tuning and optimization techniques.

Automation and Scripting:

    - Develop and implement automation scripts using languages like REXX, JCL, and others.

    - Automate routine tasks, such as backup and recovery, system monitoring, and reporting.

Problem Management:

    - Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, collaborating with IBM and other vendors as needed.

    - Identify root causes and implement fixes to prevent future occurrences.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

    - Maintain accurate documentation of z/OS systems, procedures, and best practices.

    - Share knowledge and expertise with junior staff and other teams.

Required Skills and Experience:

• z/OS: 5+ years of experience with z/OS operating system, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
• Mainframe: Strong understanding of mainframe architecture, including hardware and software components.
• Scripting: Proficient in scripting languages like REXX, JCL, and others.
• Security: Experience with mainframe security products, such as RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues.
