Job Summary:

To assess the rehabilitative needs of patients, students, or athletes with physical impairments or functional disabilities as a result of a sports-related injury. To develop rehabilitative physical care plans and provide athletic training services to patients.

Education & Experience

Met the educational requirements for certification by the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:  Mississippi licensure before hire. BOC Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Responsibilities

  • Conducts an initial assessment of the injury in order to provide emergency or continued care.
  • Applies protective or injury prevention devices such as tape, bandages or braces to the affected area.
  • Collaborates with the physician in order to develop and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation program for athletic injuries.
  • Liasion with the community to educate the public about injury prevention awareness.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of all injuries in accordance with UMMC and regulatory standards.
  • Assists coaches in developing athletic training programs to minimize injuries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, frequent crouching/stooping, frequent driving, frequent kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
