General purpose and scope of the position:
The primary goal of the New Skills Ready Network Grant Coach (Coach) is to establish relationships with high school students in order to encourage and assist students toward enrollment in college and persistence toward degree completion. The Coach will plan and implement outreach services to students within Indianapolis Public Schools specifically students who are part of a program pathway identified in the newly awarded JP Morgan Chase New Skills Ready Network grant. The Coach will provide college and career support to high school students who are interested in entering the workforce or seeking a four-year degree upon completion of a Technical Certificate or Associate Degree.
This grant funded staff position will work directly with our Career Link team and also collaborate with K-14 and other areas of Ivy Tech to provide a seamless student experience.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one coaching that supports college attainment and career exploration while complementing services that may be available through high school, college, or the community including college exploration services, admissions processes, financial aid and scholarship resources, course selection and advising, and development of an academic career plan. Works with identified high school students who are college and/or career bound. Assists students who are career bound by identifying career pathways which lead to credential attainment resulting in employment opportunities immediately after high school graduation or a pathway to continuing their college studies post-graduation.
  • Develop and convene regularly scheduled small group sessions for students throughout the academic year. These sessions are structured as informal group check-ins and as workshops designed to help students navigate the college environment, access resources, and build a network of peer support. (i.e. program specific groups, financial aid workshops, and ACT & SAT, Knowledge Assessment information) In conjunction with Ivy+ Career Link, implement student career workshops which may involve on-campus activities, tours, industry visits, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Assists with registering students in dual enrollment and dual credit courses in their assigned pathways.
  • Maintains accurate records, collects and enters required information and case notes for each student in the coaching cohort, including regularly updated student contact information, and academic progress. Proactively ensuring their assigned students successfully complete their Ivy Tech courses and stay on track in their assigned program pathway.
  • Must stay current with Ivy Tech programs, admission and registration processes, career and higher education trends, and requirements of the Indiana Department of Education.
  • The Coach will attend Ivy Tech and IPS meetings & training sessions and must maintain contact with appropriate IPS and Ivy Tech staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-4 years related experience in advising, career counseling, recruiting, or other student services position.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to initiate and balance multiple work projects. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to work within and travel to multiple Indianapolis Public School High School campuses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a K-12 or post-secondary college position.
  • Training or teaching experience specifically with young adults.
  • Experience managing multiple projects; detail-oriented; excellent interpersonal skills including working successfully with diverse populations, including but not limited to college and school personnel, teachers and prospective students; experience with high school-to-college transition
