Job Description

The Sr. Practice Manager provides strategic and operational leadership to strengthen financial governance, guide AWM planning cycles, and enable seamless operational transitions across Ameriprise. This role oversees initiative setup, monthly portfolio reconciliation, annual planning processes, AWM Operating Model activities, and resource stewardship to ensure organizational readiness and alignment.

The Sr. Practice Manager partners closely with Finance, Business Planning & Analysis, Controllership, the Enablement Tools Team, and business owners to deliver strong portfolio integrity and support ongoing operational enhancements.

Portfolio Planning & Financials:

·       Oversee accurate setup of new initiatives to ensure alignment with the AWM Operating Model and financial reporting standards.

·       Provide strategic oversight of portfolio financials, generating insights and supporting decision-making.

·       Drive disciplined financial governance to enable reliable LOB reporting for IRBs and analysis of IO‑funded portfolio results.

·       Maintain disciplined management of resource and project recoveries, timely project closures, uphold audit‑ready documentation and compliance across a large, complex investment portfolio.

·       Partner closely with Business LFOs, Business Planning & Analysis, Controllership, and the Engagement Tools Team.

AWM Operating Model and Viability Committee:

·       Monitor new Tier 1 initiative ideas and submissions, ensuring committee visibility, impact assessment, and readiness for ELT recommendation discussion.

·       Support Program and Field Implementation leaders in managing the AWM Viability Committee senior‑leader meeting, including calendar development and alignment with AWM ELT meetings and portfolio reporting cycles, agenda drafting, meeting documentation, and decisions and action item tracking.

·       Recommend and implement process improvements to streamline committee operations and enhance efficiency, clarity, and overall effectiveness.

AWM Annual Planning:

·       Support the AWM annual planning cycle by developing schedules aligned to AWM ELT and AWM Viability Committee meetings.

·       Coordinate with internal teams to prepare systems, tools, and reporting for annual planning process.

·       Partner with VPAs and business owners to guide and support the plan submission process.

·       Review, monitor, and manage submissions to ensure accurate setup for reporting to the AWM Viability Committee and AWM ELT.

·       Prepare materials for review with senior‑leader forums, track updates to submissions, and manage key changes throughout the planning cycle.

·       Attend meetings, document decisions and action items, and support communication of final plan alignment to business owners and key stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Business Planning & Analysis, Controllership, PFI leadership).

Operational Excellence:

·       Champion best-practice capabilities across practitioner communities to drive adherence and behavior change.

·       Remove barriers across the project and operations lifecycle by delivering processes and tolls for efficiency.

·       Consult and coach senior leaders and project resources on lifecycle methodology, tools, practices, and procedures.

·       Maintain expert knowledge of industry best practices and alternative approaches within the practice area.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience required

  • 4+ years of successful track record with high comfort level in managing transformational initiatives, change management and financial management

  • Ability to navigate stakeholder relationships and work effectively across organizational boundaries

  • Strong leadership, analytical and relationship management skills

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to explain technical information in non-technical language to drive progress

  • Experience with OnePlan

  • PMP, ITIL certifications

In-Office Collaboration

Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $115,000 - $135,000 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
