Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking a motivated Associate Systems Engineer (level 2) to support / join the Vertical Lift (VL) program Chinook Airworthiness/Certification team located in Ridley Park, PA. The selected candidate will report to the Chinook Airworthiness and Certification team.

The Boeing Philadelphia Chinook Airworthiness and Certification team supports validation and verification of varying regulatory requirements and airworthiness standards. The Airworthiness team is also responsible for developing certification strategies for unique customer regulatory environments. This team operates as a primary interface between Boeing design teams and respective customer representatives.

Position Responsibilities: 

This position supports development and decomposition of customer requirements into certification requirements. Additional activity will include developing the verification plans, which will require leading technical integration with our Integrated Product

teams (IPTs). In this role engineers will also be supporting the verification execution for our vertical lift platforms. This will include artifact discovery, verification of evidence against design/airworthiness requirements and verification for collaborative customer reviews. Individuals will need to interface with design teams to ensure compliance to baseline system architecture. Individuals will support integration with multiple engineering disciplines within the various design IPTs and will require an ability to develop a working knowledge of multiple engineering commodities. Opportunities will be available to expose individuals to various aspects of the systems engineering process throughout the product lifecycle, beginning with concept operations, through our preliminary and critical design phases, through production and into fleet support.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):  (see education and experience for the level below)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 1+ years of engineering experience.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment with multiple engineering stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience):

  • Systems Engineering experience or education.

  • Experience with a Requirements Management Tool (DOORS, Slate, Enovia, etc.)

  • Experience with certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Experience working with US Department of Defense (DoD) customers or international Defense customers

Typical Education/Experience: 

Level 2

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master).
