Data Engineer II

As a Data Engineer II, you will be the key contributor in managing and scaling our MySQL and PostgreSQL infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring high performance, availability, and reliability of our relational databases while contributing to the continuous improvement of database processes. Additionally, having experience with Elasticsearch will be an added advantage, as you will also assist in managing search and indexing capabilities to enhance the performance of secondary data systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases in production and development environments.
  • Automate database operations, including backups, monitoring, scaling, and failover processes.
  • Optimize database performance, conduct tuning, and ensure query optimization for large-scale datasets.
  • Implement and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for relational databases.
  • Assist in Elasticsearch cluster management and ensure its scalability and performance, if applicable.
  • Work closely with engineering and product teams to develop and deliver efficient database solutions.
  • Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot MySQL/PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch environments.
  • Drive initiatives for database automation and infrastructure management.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, engineering, and systems administrators on technical issues and database requirements.
  • Contribute to the data engineering community by sharing knowledge via articles, blogs, or attending meetups.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience managing and optimizing MySQL and/or PostgreSQL databases.
  • 2+ years of experience with Elasticsearch (optional but preferred).
  • Experience with database architecture, indexing, replication, and backup strategies.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar) for automating database operations.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud services.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for database deployment and management.
  • Proficient in working with Linux/Unix environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with an emphasis on data performance and scalability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive, self-driven approach.
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools such as Jira, Confluence, or Slack.
