About the role

We are seeking a talented and motivated software engineer to join our Enterprise Data Management team within the Catalog organization. You’ll be a part of a highly technical team building core experiences on the Dremio stack. Your contributions will help us deliver on our vision to build and enhance autonomous data optimization and ingestion for Iceberg tables.

What you’ll be doing

  • Contribute to the software development cycle from inception, design, development, testing and deployment within the infrastructure side or Dremio Query engine side
  • Actively participate in code and design reviews to maintain exceptional quality and deepen your understanding of the system architecture and implementation
  • Understanding and reasoning about concurrency and parallelization to deliver scalability and performance in a multithreaded and distributed environment
  • Collaborate with program managers, support teams, solution architects, etc on new feature requests and updates to existing design
  • Conduct performance tuning and improve system efficiency
  • Work with open source projects from the Apache Foundation

What we’re looking for

  • B.S., M.S. or PhD in Computer Science or in a related technical field
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in focus on database systems or related fields
  • Strong programming skills in an object oriented language such as Java or C++
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, multi-threaded and asynchronous patterns and their applications towards developing scalable systems
  • Passion for quality, zero downtime upgrades, availability, resiliency, and uptime of the platform
  • Interested and motivated to be part of a fast-moving startup with a fun and accomplished team
  • Desire to learn: You can stand your ground as well as be mentored by your teammates

Bonus points if you have

  • Understanding of database internals, query planning, distributed systems, concurrency control, data replication, and storage systems
  • Experience with Apache Iceberg
  • Experience with messaging systems like Kafka, NATS and/or GCP Pubsub

Return to Office Philosophy

Workplace Wednesdays - to break down silos, build relationships and improve cross-team communication, Gnarlies who live within a 1-hour commuting distance (one-way) to a Dremio office come to the office. Lunch catering / meal credits provided in the office and local socials align to Workplace Wednesdays. In general, Dremio will remain a hybrid work environment. We will not be implementing a 100% (5 days a week) return to office policy for all roles.
