Job Summary

The Senior Logistics Specialist manages complex logistics, resolves operational and financial issues, and optimizes transportation efficiency. As a key problem solver, this role leverages expertise in carrier relations, cost control, and service improvements, while mentoring team members and ensuring cost-effective solutions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage complex logistics processes, track and resolve shipment delays and issues, and serve as a key contact for internal teams, customers, and carriers.
  • Make financial decisions on carrier selection, cost optimization, and rate negotiations, analyze logistics spend for savings, and ensure accurate billing and freight payments.
  • Resolve non-routine logistics challenges independently, anticipate supply chain disruptions with contingency plans, and assess carrier performance to recommend improvements.
  • Identify workflow improvements for efficiency and cost savings, assist in developing and updating SOPs, and act as a TMS subject matter expert, providing training as needed.
  • Coach and support Logistics Coordinators, assist with onboarding and training new hires, and help management delegate tasks to entry-level team members.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, develop solution, and lead or participate in improvement roll-out
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned  

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum four (4) years of logistics/transportation experience, ideally in LTL, TL, 3PL, or distribution environments.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, routing, and freight pricing.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound financial and operational decisions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interface with clients, carriers, and internal teams professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience mentoring or coaching team members is a plus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to typical risks of injury in an office environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
