General Summary:
Facilitates, promotes and models a leadership philosophy and style consistent with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago leadership statement. In collaboration with medical and organizational leadership, provides oversight in planning, organizing, and directing the management activities that support the clinical operations of the laboratory, including fiscal responsibility. Initiates process and system improvement activities. Provides direction to management team to accomplish department goals and meet customer needs. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care, the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and adult patients with regard to their growth and development process.
Essential Job Functions:
Facilitates and leads assigned group functions. Provides leadership for designated teams in pathology and laboratory medicine services.
Manages and coordinates the effective / efficient use of human and material resources.
Actively participates in recruitment and retention functions to achieve stable workforce.
Meets regularly with accountable superiors, assigned staff, medical staff and peers to share and receive communication, problem solve and review service performance.
Develops rotational curriculum for student education programs in conjunction with teams and student’s school.
Coordinates outreach activities.
Demonstrates critical thinking and expert decision-making.
Advises, evaluates and establishes purchasing requirements.
Establishes, coordinates and revises the operational parameters for procedures and equipment maintenance in conjunction with the team and other director(s).
Maintains all documentation as required.
Establishes and communicates procedures within the guidelines of the pathology and laboratory medicine services, policies, and maintains appropriate documentation.
Participates in the operational process: develops annual objectives, within the scope of Lurie Children’s strategic plan, assuring integration across clusters.
Accountable for the achievement of the strategic outcomes for areas of responsibility: assures compliance with regulatory agencies and certifying organizations.
Develops and implements systems to ensure information flow: participates on the information system team in the department.
Identifies opportunities for, and develops interdependent teams: works in cooperation with physician and organizational leadership to identify and address issues.
Accountable for financial management within areas of responsibility: prepares operational and capital budgets. Monitors budgets and takes corrective action as needed.
Plans and implements system changes that enhance organizational performance: reviews quality management data, establishes procedures, monitors activity and institutes corrective action as required.
Effectively leads and manages people resources: develops professional growth opportunities for self and team(s).
Facilitates collaborative partnerships with physicians to ensure the needs of patients are met.
Models, promotes and monitors department’s sensitivity to customer needs.
Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Knowledge of pediatric laboratory, health care administration, and finance usually acquired through three to five years of progressive experience.
Certification required in at least one appropriate for position: ASCP, NCA, or equivalent.

Pay Range
$124,800.00-$205,920.00 SalaryAt Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
