Job Summary :
Serves the needs of inpatients, outpatients, outside facilities, and physicians through the accurate, timely and courteous collection of laboratory specimens and completion of other related laboratory duties, in a professional and competent manner. Responsible for drawing samples of blood, labeling specimens appropriately, and preparing them for testing. Common tasks and duties include Identifying the patient, verifying physician orders, explaining the procedure to patients while providing comfort, support, collecting the correct specimens required, and delivering samples to the laboratory in a timely manner. Additional duties may include transcribing orders, patient registration, confirming orders in the HIS and preparing samples for shipping to other locations and lab departments.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
· Demonstrates customer service principles to patients, providers, and other departments supporting the mission, vision, and values of HRH.
· Is open to changes in schedules, workflow and shares a positive attitude about new initiatives. Adapts behavior and work methods when faced with new information or changing conditions.
· Accurately Identifies the patient and samples using two patient identifiers, collecting the correct specimens and volumes, and appropriate labeling of specimens in the presence of the patient.
· Performs medical venous and capillary blood collections independently for patients of all ages within specified safety parameters, timeline, and pace.
· Demonstrates knowledge of computer HIS system, for patient identification, registration, order entry, and sample tracking; resolves discrepancies as needed.
· Utilizes supply items in a cost-effective manner, supports ordering of supplies, and restocking of work areas.
· Works efficiently with the workflow and workload. Suggests improvements opportunities for workflow enhancement and enhancement of the patient experience.
· Creates and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Dispose of bio-hazardous materials properly.
·Adheres to all hospital and lab policies and procedures. Adheres to all regulatory agency guidelines.
· Responds to patient concerns in a professional supportive manner as defined by the HRH patient experience team. Researches and assists in problem solving.
· Answers phone calls in a professional manner. Listening to understand the issue and directing phone calls to the appropriate staff.
· Supports and collaborates with the lab, providers, patients, and other departments to meet the needs of the patient in a professional manner.
· Possesses required functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment, demonstrates, active interest and ability to enhance and apply new functional skills.
· Supports training of new employees.

Education and Experience Required:
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prefer Certified Phlebotomy Certification
3. Prefer prior patient experience, does not need to be healthcare related
