Position Summary

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you’ll support the day-to-day technical functions of prescription dispensing and play a key role in delivering exceptional pharmacy services. You’ll work closely with pharmacists and teammates to ensure our customers receive accurate, timely, and pleasant service—every visit, every time.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet customers warmly and collect prescription information in accordance with Pharmacy Standards

  • Deliver service based on assigned roles and workflow priorities

  • Direct all clinical questions to the Pharmacist

  • Set clear and realistic expectations for wait times

  • Process prescriptions and related purchases efficiently

  • Ensure customers requiring counseling are referred to the Pharmacist

  • Handle cash register duties within the dispensary

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy standards

Administration

  • Receive and process new and refill prescriptions following Standard Operating Procedures

  • Prepare and submit orders (excluding controlled drugs and narcotics)

  • Adjudicate third-party billing (online and manual accounts)

  • Answer phones and route inquiries appropriately

  • Manage incoming faxes in accordance with Pharmacy Standards of Practice

  • Assist pharmacists with patient callbacks

  • Accurately file documentation as required

Prescription Workflow

  • Support prescription preparation to company and professional standards

  • Enter data for new prescriptions and manage refill requests

  • Select medications according to Pharmacy Standards of Practice

  • Count, measure, package, and label prescriptions accurately and efficiently

  • Maintain precise records within pharmacy systems

Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required

  • Pharmacy Assistant diploma (from an accredited program) preferred

  • Previous pharmacy experience an asset

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

  • Problem-solving mindset

  • Excellent attention to detail
