Overview:

This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of regulatory examination and continuous monitoring activities, and all associated verbal and written interaction with regulatory agency personnel.  This position is also responsible for advising management throughout all lines of defense, organizing bank personnel and management to prepare for examinations and continuous monitoring activities, quality control of material provided to agency personnel, advising on appropriate messaging, and coordinating responses to ad hoc requests and supervisory letters.  A key component of this position is ensuring communication to regulatory agencies is clear, complete, and concise as possible. This position includes the management of ad hoc regulatory requests and other initiatives related to supervisory activities.

The position will be responsible for actively communicating and coordinating with other areas within the Regulatory Affairs function, including the regulatory change management, regulatory strategy, and regulatory remediation functions.    

                                                                                                 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to management regarding supervisory activities, themes emerging from examination and continuous monitoring activities and other regulatory/supervisory developments and expectations.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure regulatory expectations are understood by the organization, advise on assessments vs. expectations, and support/opine on management efforts to address any gaps.
  • Apply a supervisory perspective to assist management in written and verbal supervisory communications and upcoming regulatory interactions.
  • Maintain knowledge of recent and anticipated changes in prudential/bank regulations and how they impact the firm.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to Regulatory Affairs policies and procedures and other applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators, as applicable.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This position provides guidance and advice on regulation/supervision on a firmwide basis, partnering with cross-functional working teams that include all three lines of defense.

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

May need to manage other Regulatory Affairs personnel, as well as contributors from other parts of the Bank.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business or related discipline, or four (4) years of audit, regulatory or risk management experience specifically within the banking industry in lieu of degree.
Minimum seven (7) years relevant work experience.
Working knowledge of bank supervisory processes or experience working with bank regulatory matters.

Demonstrated knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance issues related to the banking industry.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline

Direct experience working in bank supervision at a regulatory agency.

Experience in enterprise risk management or in governance and controls of a large US banking institution.

Experience and confidence interacting with senior executives.

Demonstrated leadership skills.

The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above corresponds to our national pay range for this role. The specific pay range applicable to you may vary based on your location.
