The Red Hat network management team is looking for an intern interested in developing and testing network management software such as NetworkManager, Nmstate and Netfyr to join us in Brno. In this role, you will work with an international team to solve the network management needs of Red Hat customers and other Linux users. You’ll help with implementing new features, analysing bug reports, testing the results and packaging the software with AI assistance. As an Intern, you’ll engage with internal customers and collaborate with your colleagues using Scrum. This long-term internship will give you the opportunity to gain experience in professional software development in an open-source environment.
At Red Hat, you’ll work in an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, values great ideas, and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully. Freedom and courage are two of our core values — which means you’ll have the space to take risks, explore the unknown, and grow your strengths. But being a Red Hatter is not just about bravery; it’s also about commitment and follow-through.
Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid internship based in our Brno office, typically lasting 12 months, with the possibility to extend up to 24 months. Interns work on average 20 hours per week, with flexible working hours, and the expected start date is July 1st.
What you will do:
Collaborate with an international, diverse team in an agile environment including upstream contributors
Use and improve agentic software engineering workflows for testing and developing software written in Rust, C or Python and other languages
Understand and support our customers’ requirements to build high-quality and impactful software
Grow our community through promoting our software virtual and in person through demos, blogs and conferences
What you will bring:
You must be enrolled in a Czech university (Bachelor’s 3rd/4th year or Master’s) for the full internship duration and be able to work full-time within 2 years.
Working knowledge of written and spoken English
A growth and agile mindset to adapt to a changing environment by gaining experience and providing and requesting feedback
Experience in programming on Linux, ideally in a systems programming language such as Rust or C and other languages such as Python or Bash
Familiarity with AI (ideally experience), software testing, agile methodologies and Linux networking, system and development tools (NetworkManager, systemd, git, …) or concepts
Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your github and/or gitlab account), and extracurricular activities. Incomplete applications may be excluded from screening. You can find helpful tips and recommendations in this article.
Please apply to a maximum of 3 internship roles that best match your interests and skills.
