JOB SUMMARY
The Purchasing Agent works to reduce costs while improving services by handling purchasing and procurement activities. Qualified candidates will be results-oriented team players with purchasing experience and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position is Temporary (six months) with the intention of potential full-time capabilities upon further development within the role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Category Manager for couplings in all day-to-day activities
- Learn and master the category strategy for Couplings and facilitate its development
- Work proactively to meet strategic goals for cost reductions and service improvements
- Analyze vendor capabilities versus requirements and research new suppliers
- Evaluate existing suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, supplier's track record
- Prepare, distribute and analyze requests for proposals for day-to-day items and one to three year contracts; generate summary and send to requester for approvals
- Negotiate, or renegotiate and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors and other representatives
- Consult with departments across EVRAZ to understand technical specifications, product requirements and inventory demands
- Write and review product specifications, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased
- Confer with staff, users and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action
- Oversee day to day supplier management and adhering to spend contract
- Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time and in the event of problems trace shipments and follow up undelivered goods
- Produce reports related to vendor activity, contractor headcount, RFPs, contracts and other data relate to procurement activities
- Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes
- Formulate policies and procedures for bid proposals and procurement of goods and services
- Performs other duties as they might be assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, preferably with a concentration in logistics, engineering, operations and/or supply chain management
- Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP), Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) designation(s) preferred, not required.
- At least 2 years’ purchasing/materials management experience with a focus on manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Proven track record of cost reductions, apply negotiation and commercial analysis skills to achieve strategic purchasing initiatives
- Excellent customer service skills with an ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Familiar with supplier markets and ability to follow cost and technological trends for a variety of products
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and products, preferably in the steel, specialty steel, scrap or related industry an asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
