Job Description

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the firm’s financial records for reporting, audit, and tax purposes. This position requires a hands-on accountant who is analytical, organized, and capable of solving problems. The successful candidate must be comfortable taking responsibility for and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Submit vendor invoices in expense management system (Chrome River). Create bank transactions for vendor invoices and process payments in SAP. Prepare tax invoices for all incoming client and other payments.
  • Manage month-end close by ensuring all bank activity is recorded in SAP and bank accounts are balanced.
  • Manage and track petty cash for Istanbul office. Record all activity in SAP.
  • Process payroll and social security payments.
  • Work closely with Turkish accountant regarding monthly activity, bank transactions and tax-related matters. Review quarterly and yearly tax returns for all partners and companies prepared by Turkish accountant. Enter and clear all income tax payments in SAP.
  • Manage cash flow by forecasting expenses and client payments. Manage budget and forecasting activities; provide reporting of actuals.
  • Manage time entry data for seconded employees to produce utilization reports as well as other reports to be used for other internal purposes such as compensation calculations.
  • Prepare draft bills and work with partners to review and revise. Create final invoices; ensure billing is done timely and in line with engagement letter assumptions.
  • Provide ad hoc data/reports to partners for matters such as worked, billed data, write off amounts, invoice history, payment history.
  • Track collections of fees for matrix and calendar year.
  • Track Accounts Receivable amounts; send monthly reminders and provide account statements to clients.
  • Assist in matter opening to ensure correct billing criteria is used; periodically review and close matters that are inactive.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external clients

Qualifications and job-related skills:

  • Degree in Accounting preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of large company financial/accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services firm
  • Fluent in Turkish and English
  • Expertise in Excel including pivot tables, vlookups, interest calculations, present value calculations and other advanced formulas
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounts
  • Diligence and self-discipline to produce high-quality, well-documented work with minimal supervision and errors
  • Solid analytical skills to resolve increasingly difficult accounting challenges
  • Able to coordinate complex projects from start to finish while being highly responsive and committed to results
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as necessary
