Senior Director-Perioperative Services

Job Summary:

To provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and clinical direction for perioperative service lines. To drive excellence in patient care, operational efficiency, quality outcomes, staff engagement, financial performance, and regulatory compliance. To partner closely with physician leaders, anesthesiology, nursing, and administrative leadership to ensure high-quality, patient-centered surgical care and to optimize the surgical continuum from scheduling to discharge.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing and seven (7) years of RN experience including four (4) years of leadership experience.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:

Valid RN license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in nursing and RN experience in ICU, ER, or Periop.

Strong strategic planning and operational management capabilities. Expert understanding clinical standards, workflows, and regulatory requirements. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to lead large teams through change and foster high-performance culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of all perioperative areas to ensure safe, timely, efficient patient flow.
  • Optimize OR utilization, block scheduling, case throughput, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure timely coordination between surgery, anesthesia, nursing, SPD, and ancillary departments.
  • Maintain rigorous standards of patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with medical directors and clinical leaders to implement evidence-based practices and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators such as SSI rates, on-time starts, turnover times, cancellations, and adverse events.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and procedural leaders to ensure service line success.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee development of policies and procedures aligned with best practices and regulatory standards.

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, constant working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking.
