About Team:

This role is mainly within the Target’s marketplace Digital Engineering team at Target Tech. Target marketplace also called as TargetPlus(Target+) is Target's curated marketplace. A business and seller facing application which is used to onboard 3rd party(3P) sellers, list their products/items for sale on target.com. Target+ also takes care of 3P sellers order lifecycle, fulfilment and the reverse logistics.​ Application also supports 3rd party seller performance management and insights.​

At Target, we are gearing up for exponential growth and continuously expanding our product assortment by welcoming new 3rd Party sellers to Target's thriving marketplace. To support this expansion, we are revamping our seller portal experience to meet increasing demands and enhance our seller's experience.

About SEM: The Sr. Engineering Manager (SEM) is responsible for leading high performing team of frontend and backend engineers who will be focussing on marketplace frontend portal and seller insights & performance management backend engineering teams. With the growing needs of the marketplace, we are looking to enhance the portal experience for our sellers and business teams by making the portal more intuitive by providing enhanced metrics and reporting capabilities.

This role is accountable for team’s high quality and high performant code, technical roadmap and decisions, upholding engineering and security best practices, stakeholder management and strong partnership with business, product and UX leaders.  The role also requires fostering strong collaboration with the data engineering and product teams to develop intuitive dashboards for the marketplace portal and design a scalable marketplace insights pipeline.  Success in this role will require strong and innovative approaches to problem solving, great technical leadership, excellent communication (written and verbal, formal and informal), flexibility, accountability and a self-motivated working style with attention to detail.

    Drive product development and operations with lead engineers and drive technical decision making, adhering to Target platform architecture and other enterprise decisions.
  • You’ll have a strong focus on team management and development, equal focus will be on writing production code and hands on active development of the capabilities and solutions.
  • Assist in defining infrastructure need and use of Target enterprise solution and drive resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment and managing overall software development cycle by adhering to development and security standards.
  • Establish good stakeholder communication and work closely with Product and UX teams and influence product roadmap and help drive requirements while being a strong advocate of extreme agile and DevOps practices across engineers.
  • Build and manage a team of high performing front end and backend engineers and provide leadership, coaching, motivation and recommend staffing levels, operating procedures, tools and systems for the team. Provide career development and performance management to a team of engineers.

       About you:

  • 4 year degree in or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of engineering (software development) experience
  •  1-3 years of managing teams with a strong track record of delivery high performing and scalable web applications and backend distributed systems.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of systems programming and control languages as required by your domain. Has demonstrated success in solving complex technical problems in more than one technical or functional areas
  • Expertise in 2 or more of the programming languages
  • Understands business fundamentals and how technologies can support business goals along with how to translate business vision into a technical strategy while understanding the financial implications 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to variety of audience.
  • Team-orientated, passionate about developing others’ skills and capabilities
  • Successful track record of working in large enterprise technology ecosystems leading complex technology teams
  • Deep understanding of agile development processes and methodology including continuous integration and delivery, with a mindset of building incrementally and delivering business value quickly
