Role Summary:

  • Manage successful delivery of the business projects within the assigned value stream
  • Responsible for the end-to-end planning and implementation of a major work stream that is critical to running business operations
  • Effectively manage the overall project budget, resource plans, scope and timelines to achieve on-time delivery
  • Meet the Manulife Project governance standards and requirements throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • Contribute to improvement and strengthening of project delivery standards and processes

Job Description: 

  • Lead cross-functional project teams to deliver business critical projects
  • Drive decisions regarding project priorities/business requirements to manage project scope, budget, resources and delivery risks
  • Ensure quality of deliverables and compliance with internal procedures and policies
  • Build & maintain working relationships with IT and business stakeholders for project control
  • Manage dependencies within program streams and between projects with complex dependencies
  • Manage project deadlines, breakdown tasks, set targets and push the team to ensure timeliness
  • Provide feedback, advice, guidance and encouragement to the team members
  • Proactively recognize warning signs, raise risks and issues in a timely manner, develop risk mitigation plans to resolve risks & issues
  • Communicate with the team frequently to update them about project progress and status updates
  • Take ownership of the project budget, scope, timeline and effectively manage baseline change control
  • Prepare project status reports on a weekly basis to update the management team and seek assistance when required

Experiences (must have) :

  • 10 or more years of experience managing business critical projects end to end (experience across PMLC and SDLC)
  • Past experience leading large programs with multiple projects with strong leadership in strategy, implementation and delegation
  • 5 or more years in the insurance industry (Life preferred)
  • Past experience specifically managing large scale cross-functional teams, offshore delivery vendors
  • Past experience working in both Waterfall and Agile delivery environment in the insurance industry
  • Experience in delivering projects under a regulatory environment in the financial services industry

Skills & Competencies (must have):

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills to lead cross-functional teams and coach/advise peers and staff
  • Strong planning and organization skills with the ability to adapt to changes or  unforeseen circumstances
  • Ability to manage budgets and resource capacity for projects
  • Strong team building and motivational skills to resolve conflicts and focus on the delivery outcome
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
  • Excellent time management skills, goal setting and follow-up
  • Thorough understanding of insurance products and insurance operations
  • Team player, self-motivated, confident and results-driven
  • Proficient in project management tools, templates and project life cycle
  • Bilingual in English (speak/read/write) and Japanese (speak/read/write)

Other Qualifications (public certifications, etc):

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or certificate in computer science, software engineering
  • Project Management certification strongly preferred (PMP, Prince2)
  • Understanding of Agile & DevOps practices as applied to project management

Internal Guidelines about Work from Home:

Hybrid Model, following Manulife’s Working Better guidelines.

Over time:

10-30 hours/month.

Salary:

Based on our Work Rules, we will consider your experience, skills and knowledge when we decide the salary.

Commutation allowance and Variable Incentive Bonus are paid based on our Work Rules.

Working Hours:

Standard Working Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm  (Include 1 hour break. Flex-time system available)
