Job Description Summary:

Under guidance with faculty biostatistician/data scientist, carries out data preparation responsibilities related to basic, clinical and/or population health research. This role will perform introductory to intermediate-level statistical analysis and programming associated with research projects and assists with the preparation of written reports, manuscripts, and grant applications with investigators under the supervision of a faculty member. Provides statistical data management and analysis support to investigators; performs power calculations and prepare statistical analysis sections of grants, manuscripts, and presentations. This role designs and implements data management systems, is responsible for project oversight, and trains project staff regarding data entry.

This is a 20 hour a week, part-time position.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collects, analyzes, and presents numerical data, applying statistical methods and mathematical principles.

  • Performs complex statistical analysis on experimental or business data to validate and quantify trends or patterns identified by business analysts.

  • Constructs predictive models, algorithms, and probability engines to support data analysis; verifies model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results.

  • Utilizes statistical knowledge to the design of surveys and experiments, collection, processing, and analysis of data, and interpretation of results.

  • Plans data collection; analyzes and interprets numerical data from experiments, studies, surveys, and other sources; and applies statistical methodology to provide information for scientific research and statistical analysis.

  • Plans methods to collect information and develops questionnaire techniques according to survey design.

  • Conducts surveys utilizing sampling techniques or complete enumeration bases.

  • Evaluates reliability of source information, adjusts, and weighs raw data, and organizes results into form compatible with analysis by computers or other methods.

  • Presents numerical information by computer readouts, graphs, charts, tables, written reports, or other methods.

  • Conducts regular data quality checks.

  • Describes sources of information and limitations on reliability and usability.

  • Analyzes and interprets statistics to point out significant differences in relationships among sources of information and prepare conclusions and forecasts based on data summaries.

Work Environment

Required Qualification

Education: MS degree in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field

Work Experience:

  • Data management and data analysis experience is required.

  • Training and experience with SAS.

  • Experience in project management, developing and managing research databases in a PC environment.

  • Academic training in diverse statistical methodology, including design of experiments and linear regression.

  • Ability to communicate data management and statistical methodology, both verbally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses: PStat accreditation

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field.

  • Minimum five (5) years of research experience

  • Experience in applying statistical methods in a medical research setting.

  • Training in advanced statistical methods such as multivariate analyses, categorical data analysis, missing data, correlated data methods, survey research methodology and/or survival analysis.

  • Experience in creating and managing databases in Access.

Skills

  • Superior analytical ability

  • Strong background in health services research or statistics

  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff

  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
