About The Department:

  • The Director, Distribution Data Management & Governance leads a scaled, blended team responsible for operational excellence, data quality, and governance across the distribution data ecosystem. This is a people-leader role (~70%) with strong techno-functional expectations (~30%): the Director will stay close to the work through hands-on problem solving, data analysis, and solution oversight to accelerate outcomes and increase trust in data. The role partners with business stakeholders and technology teams to deliver trusted data products, improve time-to-value, and enable analytics, reporting, CRM, and strategic initiatives.

How You Will Add Value?

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of about 25 resources (FTEs + Contractors); set priorities, operating rhythms, performance management, and coaching.

  • Establish the team as the primary “front door” for business data needs, including intake, triage, prioritization, and delivery governance for distribution data requests and strategic initiatives.

  • Establish and continuously improve data governance and data quality controls (standards, rules, KPIs, issue management).

  • Drive end-to-end delivery of data products and services, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, lineage, and documentation.

  • Partner with business and technology leaders to translate objectives into clear requirements, roadmaps, and execution plans.

  • Implement scalable processes for incident/escalation management, root-cause analysis, and remediation to prevent recurrence.

  • Oversee vendor/partner engagement (SOWs, delivery management, outcomes/KPI measurement, and value realization).

  • Promote automation and modernization (workflow automation, data validation, observability) to reduce manual effort and risk.

  • Provide executive-ready communication on progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes; ensure transparency and alignment.

  • Drive adoption and promotion of AI/ML (including GenAI where appropriate) to enhance distribution data management—e.g., automated data cleansing, anomaly detection, intelligent matching/mapping, and self-service insights—with strong controls, governance, and measurable outcomes.

  • Maintain hands-on engagement (approx. 30%): perform deep-dive investigations, validate data logic/controls, review mappings and DQ rules, and partner with engineering/architecture on solution design and rollout.

What Will Help You Be Successful In This Role?

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline.

  • 15+ years of experience in data management, data governance, analytics enablement, and/or enterprise data delivery.

  • 7+ years leading teams and large cross-functional programs (including blended FTE/contractor delivery models).

  • Proven experience building and operating data quality frameworks (DQ rules, monitoring, issue workflows, and KPIs).

  • Strong stakeholder management skills; ability to influence across senior business and technology leadership.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; experience producing executive-level updates and operating artifacts.

  • Working knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts and enterprise data structures; strong SQL/Excel proficiency.

  • Experience leading AI-enabled data initiatives (e.g., data quality automation, anomaly detection, predictive matching, or workflow automation) from idea to adoption, including change management, risk/controls, and KPI tracking.

  • Demonstrated hands-on capability: ability to personally query/analyze data (SQL), validate business logic, debug data issues end-to-end, and translate findings into actionable fixes and durable controls.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AI/GenAI enablement in data organizations (use case intake, model lifecycle partnership, governance/controls, prompt/workflow design, and adoption measurement) is a plus.

  • Financial services / asset management distribution data domain experience (sales, clients/accounts, products, CRM).

  • Experience with modern data platforms and integration patterns (cloud data warehouses/lakes, ETL/ELT, APIs).

  • Experience implementing data observability, automation, and controls in regulated environments.

  • Hands-on experience with data analysis and troubleshooting (e.g., SQL-based investigation, root-cause analysis, and data reconciliation) is a plus.
