As a Certified CS/SPD Technician, you will play a key role in how our operating rooms care for our patients as the whole team relies on you to successfully set up the operating room. Certified CS/SPD Technicians receive ample support, training and education, including learning how to operate the latest, state-of-the-art processing equipment and using the newest sterilization tools and concepts. By taking on this role, you will have a major impact on patient care by helping to ensure the safety and health of the patient.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 11:00AM – 7:30AM, with weekend and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Be responsible for the safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments, equipment distribution and case care management.
Perform case pull functions.
Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
Assemble, wrap and label instruments.
Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
Perform recordkeeping functions, such as processing, sterilization and quality assurance.
Participate in in-service education.
Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
Perform preceptor duties and assist in educating non-certified technicians.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas
Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER)
Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing
Proficient in using computerized instrument tracking systems
Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.
Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.
Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
