What you need to know:

The Actuarial Data Engineering Lead will join the AIG Data Office, responsible for day-to-day applications management, functional enhancement and subject matter expert support of AIG’s Actuarial function.  The actuarial lead will work collaboratively with business, product owners and vendor partners to ensure successful delivery of business priorities.    This is a strategic role supporting mission critical actuarial AIG functions. This includes leading technical resources, partnering with AIG IT, and actuarial business partners.  The lead is responsible for leading deliverables in a highly outsourced model.  The Actuarial Data Engineering Lead will work collaboratively with Product owners and vendor partners to ensure the business changes are done on a priority basis.  The ideal candidate ensures that roadmaps and product plans are in place to achieve the long-term objectives. 

The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Analysis, design, technology development and delivery accountability for mission critical actuarial processing initiatives across AIG.
  • Delivery of all required reports to Reserving Actuaries on a monthly basis.
  • Support data feeds to Pricing Actuaries from the centralized actuarial batch process.
  • Manage process for Tagging and segmentation of Loss sensitive business during month / Quarter close. Actuaries use this data in Loss reserving to create Gross and Net loss triangles.
  • Manage the data used for Schedule P reporting (domestic & international)
  • Maintains the month end process providing data for international segmentation, IBNR calculation and international reserving processes.
  • Provides International premiums and losses for select UK/EU regulatory reporting process.
  • Manages multiple actuarial apps and provides Level 3 development support.
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for AIG and AIG Stakeholders across the actuarial portfolio.
  • Responsible for fostering and maintenance of relationships with business and IT partners.
  • Manages all audits across all actuarial system processes.
  • Ensure that all solutions adhere to AIG standards for security.

What we’re looking for:

Key Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Application development, large data management solutions and information handling at the enterprise level, possessing deep understanding of SDLC.
  • Ability to manage large vendor teams across multiple geographies.
  • Experience working in large, complex, multinational financial data environments.
  • Prior experience working in Actuarial IT and /or good understanding of Actuarial process is desirable.
  • Insurance (ideally property and casualty) industry expertise in the data domain.
  • Business acumen and understanding of Insurance metrics and financials.
  • Ability to work under challenging production situations fulfilling tight deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Experience in providing technical expertise and project leadership by conducting industry and market research and making recommendations regarding current and new domain knowledge and related technologies.
  • Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
  • Effective communication skills and facilitation experience with business and technology stakeholders to understand use cases and business needs.
  • Ability to influence change and drive results.  Must be a self-motivated driver to identify issues and resolve them quickly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and with changing priorities.

Ideal Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Application management with progressive leadership roles
  • Experience in Mainframe technologies – COBOL. JCL, DB2, SQL
  • Working knowledge of Java, Shell Scripting, Hadoop, Oracle, UDB. Microsoft technologies
  • Experience in Property and Casualty insurance with emphasis in commercial lines. Prior experience in Finance & Actuarial disciplines is a plus.
  • Experience in developing and operationalizing complex data engineering solutions.
  • Leverages expert problem-solving skills and techniques.

The base salary range for this position in Jersey City, NJ, is $124,000 - $140,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
