Focus of the Role

As Constructor Operative, without immediate supervision or direction, you will undertake a broad range of end to end tasks constructing Optical Fibre cable networks inclusive of onsite management tasks. Support your Leading Operative with onsite planning, job preparation and customer interfacing queries that arise. Help deliver/manage daily tasks assigned to other members of the team reporting to you and assist with accurate reporting of job progress to Leading Operative.

What You’ll Do

Telstra InfraCo - Operations & Asset Management oversees Telstra's operations and asset management functions.

  • Undertake a range of construction tasks to build Optical Fibre Telecommunications network infrastructure ensuring compliance with documented processes and procedures.
  • As 2IC support your Leading Operative. Plan, Prepare and communicate openly and honestly with accurate updates.
  • Participate in the development and mentoring of others to ensure the teams capacity to deliver projects through any setbacks encountered.
  • Provide relevant, accurate information along with any assistance to members of your team and key stakeholders associated with the project.
  • You will work independently or within a team environment contributing to the delivery of a market leading level of service to our customers by ensuring all work is undertaken in a timely and cost-effective manner, meets quality standards and customer expectations.
  • You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with your peers and key internal and external stakeholders relevant to the achievement of business performance objectives
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate changes to design via Leading Operative.
  • Liaise with and provide assistance to sub-contractors as required when onsite.
  • Always maintain network integrity. ‘Always on’
  • Understanding and ability to demonstrate compliance with the Telstra Values, Telstra Code of Conduct and Telstra policies and procedures
  • HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with and implement any reasonable Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation.
  • This is for Fixed Term for 24 months

About You

The Following skills and experience will help you to be successful in this role:

  • Solving problems of moderate complexity.
  • Experienced, licenced RII National accredited and competent in operating  Dozers, Excavators, Backhoe’s
  • Experience in Optic Fibre hauling, Pit & Pipe construction.
  • You will have a good knowledge of Telstra’s external cable/conduit network.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant construction processes, technical standards, practices, and knowledge of TM 00044.
  • You will exhibit a high level of commitment and be able to help plan and direct others within the team to ensure success.
  • You will have a high level of customer focus.
  • Ability to build and manage strong relationships with key stakeholders, property owners and members of the Land Council.
  • You will have well developed interpersonal skills.
  • You will have excellent organisational skills and be able to manage multiple tasks at any given time.
  • You will have the ability to work independently and as part of a high performing team.
