Vice Present, Project Delivery, Biotech Development Operations

Provides strategic and executive level leadership for operational activities of the Global Project Delivery (GPD) organization. Defines prioritizes and implements operational service delivery strategies to proactively support and position the Clinical business for growth.  Position is accountable for understanding the profit and loss performance of Clinical-GPD group and driving growth by way of supporting the Clinical strategic business plan and actively supporting the sales and marketing of the organization.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Submits and justifies operating budgets for Clinical Development-GPD.
  • Manages resources as required to meet the overall objectives and financial budget expectations.
  • Implements processes to enable accurate revenue forecasting and proposal cost estimation.
  • Proactively works with Finance to obtain information needed to make solid, data-driven, group financial decisions. Instills this financial acumen in all Clinical leaders.
  • Identifies and drives strategic expansion opportunities globally to support the Clinical strategic plan.
  • Manages strategic Capital projects globally and in region(s) as assigned.
  • Ensure financial results for P&L, as well as other assigned metrics, are met or exceeded.
  • Provides executive leadership for day-to-day affairs, including for people leaders and their employees to encompass employee development, implementation of performance standards, performance appraisals, career assessment, affirmative action and future talent acquisition.
  • Inspires confidence in a culturally diverse and global team through a balanced and motivational communication style.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to develop an appropriate and scalable staffing model for all businesses.
  • Instills in all team members Fortrea’s commitment to business integrity, quality, and safety to meet the client’s requirements without error, on time, every time.
  • Defines the desired culture of the business unit and works closely with HR Partner and Clinical leadership to implement cultural action items. 
  • Provides executive level leadership and governance to the global Clinical Development/GPD business ensuring compliance with global specific legislation and practice including matters relating to regional specific financial and legal compliance, asset (property) management, community outreach and adherence to country specific regulators.
  • Manages global operations and coordinates operational decisions towards the goal of operating Clinical Development/GPD as a single, harmonized global business.
  • Provides vision, strategic and tactical planning for GPD to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Proactively develops and manages relationships with Clinical Development/GPD support groups.
  • Proactively liaises with leaders in other areas of Fortrea to ensure integrated drug development and seamless support for clients across business lines, including staffing, training, and process harmonization.
  • Supports and drives process improvement initiatives to ensure implementation of quality processes and metrics that support the ultimate goal of an error-free product for clients.
  • Presents Clinical Development-GPD capabilities to clients, both at Fortrea and client sites as needed.
  • Develops, grows, and fosters strategic client alliances by way of partnerships on leadership committees, continuous improvement projects, etc.
  • Provides Executive governance support to key clients.
  • Establishes and maintains strong strategic client relationships at all levels within our client base.
  • Attends client meetings and trade shows as required.

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • MS / MA in life sciences, business (finance) or operations
  • Proven financial expertise in the development and implementation of global budgets.
  • Broad knowledge of drug development process
  • Proven leadership management and team development skills
  • Proven expertise in financial control procedures
  • Proven ability to understand and communicate corporate policies.
  • Strong knowledge of effective project management practices
  • Strong knowledge of resource management systems
  • Strong knowledge of commercial systems and practices including contracts
  • Strong knowledge of time and cost estimate development and pricing strategies
  • Strong knowledge of sales and business development strategies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of ICH Guidelines and GCP including international regulatory requirements for the conduct of clinical development programs
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal
  • Expert knowledge of CRO, industry, market, and our clients
  • Experience of managing Biometrics, Project Management or Monitoring groups within a CRO environment
  • Fortrea may consider relevant and equivalent experience in lieu of educational requirements.

Preferred:

  • Expert knowledge of Process Improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean Sigma)
  • Expert knowledge of all Phases of clinical trials (I-IV) clinical drug development process
  • Expert knowledge of sales and business development strategies and procedures
  • Expert knowledge of Fortrea and the overall structure of the organization
  • Strong knowledge of Fortrea standard operating procedures

Experience (Minimum Required):  

  • Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry including at least six (6) years of management responsibility in project management, biometrics, clinical operations or CRO; typically, > 15 years.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, focus and problem-solving ability.
  • Substantial leadership and management experience at organizational, cross-functional and project portfolio management levels and deep knowledge of integrated global drug development.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation acumen.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills including the skills necessary for implementing corporate change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example and motivate team members to obtain solutions.
  • Proven interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and line manage staff in a global multi-office environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities across clinical operating units.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire effective teamwork and motivate staff within a matrix organization.
  • Successful track record in leading high talent teams
  • Demonstrated dedication to effective Performance management, skills and competencies assessment, talent, and succession mapping, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a member of a senior global leadership team.
  • Strong ability to understand and assess technology alternatives and implication for current processes.
  • Experience in the creation of new processes.
  • Proven ability to negotiate with clients in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in an executive level management position.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Position can be home, or office based in a Fortrea or client location.
  • Flexibility to participate in client meetings across various time zones as needed to deliver business assignments.
  • Travel Requirements: Global
  • Identify the expected travel requirements of the position on an annual basis:
  • % of time: approximately 30%
  • % of the above that requires overnight stay: 80%
  • Travel is primarily: As required by the assignment and will have global reach.

Pay Range: 230,000 -285,000k USD
