Summer 2024 Internship Details:

Our Summer 2024 Internship is built around 8 Product & Technology teams and our Legal team.

Opting in to be considered for our Summer 2024 Internship Program will be closed on Friday, April 19th at 2pm PST.

Interviews will take place between April 22nd - May 10th with hiring decisions shortly after. 

Here’s a bit more about each team hiring interns this summer:

Software Engineering: 

  • Infrastructure Engineering:
    • CI Team: The CI team is responsible for the availability and security of our source code and image repositories, our build processes, left shifted quality via static analysis integrated in the PR process, and for enabling visibility into source code quality and engineering process hygiene. Supply chain security is a top concern for the CI team.
    • CD Team: The Continuous Deployment team builds deployment automation, access management, and code generation tools built on AWS and Github. We are a team of high-performing software engineers who make impactful decisions about the technical development of Engineering at Marqeta on a regular basis. Join Team CD if you want to work with the best and have the opportunity to be the best!
  • Issuing and Processing: (Backend Software Engineer) Responsible for the core processing engine that makes Marqeta spin! Focused on improving reliability, accuracy, and performance of this transaction engine to ensure our cardholders have a best in class experience. While focused on improving the platform, we’re also making efforts to improve the agility of the team by breaking down our monolith into highly scalable systems.
  • Credit: Credit is the new-to-market offering within Marqeta. We have functioned as a small startup within Marqeta for the last few years, and have recently launched our new fully managed Credit program offering. We are smaller and scrappier than other parts of MQ, but this enables us to move faster too! Our current mission is to launch and support new customers, which requires us to be flexible with our roadmap and creative with the solutions we build.
  • Global Risk Products: This project offers an engaging opportunity to delve into the intricacies of 3DS’s ACS (Access Control System) while providing ample freedom for creativity and problem-solving. The project primarily focuses on mocking and configuring mocks that can be used in ACS’s integration, EMVCo and Network certification tests, aiming to streamline the testing processes by offloading testing code into highly configurable mock designs. By converting code into configuration within the mock, we ensure a separation of concerns and maintain code relevance and functionality. The intern will gain valuable insight into ACS operations while enhancing 3DS’s observability posture by introducing structured logging and additional custom application metrics.  This internship will give you exposure to tools and technologies that include Terraform, AWS, Java, Docker, Kubernetes (k8s) and DataDog.

Product Design:

  • Product Design: The Product Design team at Marqeta utilizes various technologies and methodologies to design features for our platform. As an intern, you would be involved in conducting user research, creating low-fidelity and high-fidelity designs using Figma, and gathering and incorporating feedback from stakeholders. Daily tasks may include creating wireframes and mockups, conducting user research interviews, presenting  to stakeholders, and learning how to measure success using various metrics.

Product Management:

  • Disputes: (Product Manager) Building a world-class Disputes platform for issuers. Our goals are to have a dispute product which is frictionless, compliant and cost-effective for our issuers. We manage technical integrations with all major card networks, reduce manual efforts through automation and AI driven features, automate compliance checks and reporting.

Vulnerability Management/ Exposure Management:

  • Security Operations and Resilience: is responsible for continuously monitoring and improving Marqeta’s cybersecurity posture by preventing, detecting, analyzing and responding to cybersecurity incidents. Secondarily we oversee vulnerability management which is the process of Identifying, assessing, prioritizing, mitigating and reporting of cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the Marqeta environment. Some of the tools we are responsible for are next-gen EDR, SOAR, security dashboard tools. Email Security, and Vulnerability scan engines.

Legal:

  • Legal: As Marqeta’s  Legal Intern, you will have the opportunity to get in-house legal experience, learn about our products and solutions and be a part of our amazing culture and environment. You will be able to experience what it takes to run a medium-sized legal organization and how in-house legal counsel operate on a daily basis.  You will spend your time conducting legal research projects, assisting our legal team with the review of various agreements and disclosures, and drafting trainings and policies for our employees. 

Compensation

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

The hourly pay for the Product & Technology Internship is:

  • National: $40.00/hour
  • Premium: $45.00/hour
  • Premium Plus: $50.00/hour

The hourly pay for the Legal Internship is:

  • National: $35.00/hour
  • Premium: $40.00/hour
  • Premium Plus: $45.00/hour
