Job Description:

Idaho Power’s Daly Creek Habitat Management Area — located in Richland, Oregon — is looking for a Resource Technician I to join our Habitat Management team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Resource Technician I do for us?

  • Assist in implementing hydroelectric project license compliance tasks
  • Gather and enter data
  • Operate, maintain, and repair infrastructure and equipment
  • Provide customer service to visitors on company-owned lands and facilities under supervision
  • Complete basic information summaries relative to task completion
  • Provide documentation as requested for project activities conducted
  • Process data to database(s)
     

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Irrigation methods including pressurized and flood systems
  • Operation and maintenance of equipment related to agricultural or landscape maintenance
  • Weed control methods

Skills in:

  • Horticultural or agricultural operations
  • Mechanics, basic electricity, and basic carpentry
  • Operating ATVs, jet boats, and heavy equipment

Ability to:

  • Perform physically demanding labor for extended periods of time
  • Work in teams and work with minimal direct supervision for limited periods of time
  • Positively and consistently represent Idaho Power Company during interactions with the public, agency personnel


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

OR

  • Ability to obtain within three months of hire date

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in relevant discipline such as agriculture, natural resources, or trade craft

Experience:

  • 3 months of directly related experience

Preferred:

  • 3 years of applicable experience

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • DOT medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to operate vehicles pulling trailers, and/or other equipment relevant to specific additional job duties
  • Licenses and certifications necessary to complete additional specific job duties (e.g., Idaho or Oregon pesticide applicator’s license)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position walks/hikes with up to 40 lb. loads on even/uneven and sometimes steep, unconsolidated slopes, up to 3-4 hours continuously, with the ability to take self-paced breaks when needed. This is performed up to 6-8 miles daily over a 6-month season. Lifting of up to 90 lbs. to waist height, lifting up to 35 lbs. to shoulder height/overhead, pushing up to 115 lbs., and pulling up to 150 lbs. is performed occasionally. Squatting, crouching, stooping/bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting is required frequently with activities such as fencing, attaching farm implements to tractors, placing siphon tubes for irrigation and general maintenance/repair. Climbing is required occasionally onto/from ladders and machinery. Operation of ATVs, UTVs, jet boats, and canoes may be required to reach areas within the Mid-Snake and Hells Canyon Habitat Management Areas. Must be 18 years old.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends and some holidays. Travel across Idaho Power service territory, with occasional overnight stays. Limited housing is available.
