Summary:

The Director of UGME will provide leadership and direction for the UGME department in conjunction with developing and executing strategic plans based on system wide strategic objectives, national trends and industry best practices.

Responsibilities:

Provides overall leadership, education, and guidance of all undergraduate medical education operations to other departments and system-wide leadership. Serves as the primary point of contact within MHS for undergraduate medical education issues, as well as manages the day-to-day department staff & operations; manage UGME budget and provide financial reporting as needed.Manages all medical students who rotate at MHS prior to their arrival from credentialing through onboarding, including assisting with the completion and follow up of student evaluations for medical school.Supports the CAO and collaborates with key leadership to execute the MHS academic strategic plan, identify high-priority initiatives, to include research endeavors at MHS that involve students, medical stuff, and residents and develop work plans and timelines, as well as defines and implements systems.Develops and drives a comprehensive undergraduate education recruitment strategy. Facilitates alignment between all internal Medical Education departments as required. Collaborates with internal departments to develop and execute targeted recruitment and marketing plans nationwide to come to MHS for rotations.Oversees LCME accreditation for local Medical Schools including providing all documents needed by medical schools to continue to use MHS as a site for student training.Facilitates the monitoring and development of medical student performance and performance indicators, including EPAs. Maintains current knowledge of education requirements and other government regulations relevant to education. Create and maintain system policies for students, handle all investigations related to adverse actions that involve UGME students and others student, including GME residents and medical staff members.Creates and maintains large database of medical students from all affiliated medical schools with data input from local affiliated medical schools.

Complexity of Work: Must have: current knowledge of education requirements and other government relations relevant to education; proven experience leading large teams and strategic initiatives at multiple organization levels in complex organizations; experience with large healthcare system; ability to travel and participate in national meetings/conferences. Must align mission of UME to the larger strategic planning in GME and Research as MHS becomes more of an academic health system. Required Work Experience: Five (5) years of related medical education or academic training or leadership experience. Other Information: Additional Education Info: Bachelors degree is required.
